If you're waiting for the Google Assistant to activate, you're in luck. There is a way to force its activation so that you can enjoy it right now on your mobile device. Next, we will tell you all the steps you must follow to activate it.
Before proceeding in the steps we have to clarify that it is not necessary to have the phone rooted or do anything strange. The only thing we will need is an Android phone in its latest versions. I have personally tested on Android 6, 7 and 8. In addition to a OnePlus 3T, BQ Aquaris X and a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 on different devices, it has worked correctly on all of them.
Activate the Google Assistant
The Google Assistant is not the same as Google Now. It is a much more vitaminized version that has artificial intelligence so that it learns the more we use it. It has been on phones with Google's operating system in English-speaking countries for some years. It has been a long time coming to Spain because of the language, but now that it is official, its deployment is being really slow. So if you are impatient like me, follow these steps.
Uninstall the Google Assistant app
In desperation for the arrival of the Google Assistant, several applications have come out that promised to activate it. All of them I have tried and they have not worked. So the main thing now is to uninstall and erase all traces of them. With this, what we achieve is that data is not overwritten and everything works correctly.
Clear Google app data
We have to delete the data from the Google application. This will erase data from both Google Now and voice search. Being an application pre-installed on the system, what we will have to do is disable it. To do this we have to go to Settings> Applications> Google.
Once there, we have to give storage and delete all the data. After having done this we force stop and we give it to disable. When we have disabled it, we restart the mobile. Before restarting we delete all the applications that we have in multitasking. When the mobile is turned on, we go to the disabled Google application and enable it. Now we have to go to the Google application store and we will see that an update skips us, we accept and update it.
We configure Google Now
Having disabled Google Now we have to accept its conditions and give it the corresponding permissions. To do this, we just have to open the Google Now icon and it will tell us what to do. We have to accept everything you ask us, since they are the necessary permissions for its correct operation.
Once this is done, we have to see that everything has been configured correctly. To check this, we access our google Now feed and see if cards appear according to our interests. There we will see if we have our Gmail account correctly linked. If everything is correct, we delete Google Now from multitasking.
We install the Google Assistant
I previously said that no application that I had tried had made the wizard work. But thanks to a Telegram partner we have obtained the APK of the Google Assistant. All you have to do is download the application. Once this is done we proceed to install it. For this we have to activate the applications from unknown sources. This is activated by going into Settings> Security> Install from unknown sources. When we install the application it is important not to open it, it is installed and we do not run it.
Set the use of voice in Google Now as the default
We have to enter Google Now, once here we click on the hamburger menu and our profile and different options will appear, we click on settings. It will take us to another window, here we have to give settings again. We will see our Google account with our personal information, preferences, etc. We focus on Devices and mark in the section that says Telephone.
If we have done everything right, we will get a screen with multiple options. On this screen we must have different sections activated. Among which are Google Assistant, “Ok Google” detection, Access and unlock, Use screen context, Notifications. The rest of the sections have to be configured as follows. In Assistant Language we put Spanish which is the language of the phone, in Preferred input method we select voice and in Voice Output we mark “Yes”.
With this we would already have the Google Assistant configured. Now all you have to do is restart the terminal, deleting the multitasking applications first. Once the terminal has started, we will look for the Google Assistant icon and press it, thus launching the application. Now we will configure our voice registration and we can start enjoying everything that the Google Assistant can do.
