Despite the fact that Android 9 Pie has already been officially launched in a large part of the Samsung mobile catalog, the truth is that today some of the company's terminals have not yet received their share of cake. The reason for this may be due to various factors, often related to the region or the telephone operator. Whatever the reason, there is the possibility of forcing the Android update on a Samsung Galaxy, although for this we will have to resort to a PC and a program called Odin.
A few weeks ago we showed you how to install the Google camera on the Samsung Galaxy S10. Today we will teach you to force the update to Android 9 Pie on a Samsung mobile.
How to force the update to Android 9 of a Samsung Galaxy
In general, the process to update a Samsung Galaxy to a higher version of Android is based on resorting to the system settings; specifically, to the Software Update section.
Unfortunately, this process is useless if the update in question has not been launched by the operator on duty or by Samsung itself. To force the update to Android 9 of a Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy J7, Galaxy Note 8 or any other Samsung model we will have to make use of Odin, a program compatible with Windows thanks to which we can install packages manually.
Once we have downloaded the program, the next thing we will have to do is install the Samsung drivers so that the program detects our mobile correctly.
The last point to force the update on our Samsung mobile will be, how could it be otherwise, look for the update package in question. Before proceeding, it is advisable to download the correct firmware to know the exact version of our phone.
To do this, we will have to go to the Android Settings; specifically to the section on About the phone. Generally, the variant in question is usually indicated in the Model Number or Model Number section with a format similar to the following:
- SM-G9600
- SM-G960F
- SM-G960U
With the version number in hand and the name of our device, the next step will be to go to the Sammobile website through this link. Then, we will write the previously extracted model in the search box and click on the result that corresponds to our phone.
Finally, the page will show us a list of all the firmware of our mobile that Samsung has released to date. Now we just have to choose the appropriate region and click on the respective download buttons.
In case of not finding our country or region, we can resort to packages from other countries of the European Union, such as Italy, Germany, France or the United Kingdom, as they generally usually include Spanish as the language to be established.
How to install a firmware on a Samsung Galaxy with Odin
We have everything ready to proceed to install the firmware on our Samsung Galaxy. Opening Odin and unzipping the update package until we have a.MD5 file left will be the first step to start the process.
The next thing we will do is turn off the mobile, connect it to the PC and start it again by pressing the Power, Volume down and Home buttons at the same time to enter Download Mode. If we do not have a Start button, the way to start the mobile in Download Mode will be by pressing the Volume buttons down and Bixby at the same time.
Samsung download mode
With Bixby open and the mobile in Download Mode, we will open Odin and wait for it to detect the mobile through the blue box that will be displayed in the top bar of the program. When it detects it, we must follow the following roadmap:
- Uncheck the Re-Partition box (very important not to brick the phone)
- Check the AP / PDA box and choose the Samsung firmware.MD5 file
- If you have a HOME_CSC file in the Samsung firmware, check the CSC box and choose the file in question
The program in question should reflect an aspect like the one we can see in this image:
Once we have made sure that everything corresponds to what is indicated in the image, we will click on the Start button and Odin will begin to install the new version automatically. In case we have included the HOME_CSC file and checked the CSC box, the user data will remain intact after the update. If we have not included any files in this box, the installation will be done cleanly, deleting all the applications on the phone.
When the Odin program marks the words Finish or Completed, we will close it and now yes, the mobile will have been completely updated.
