Having a mobile does not only mean having fun with applications, communicating on social networks, taking photos, or browsing to pass the time. The dark side are the dreaded calls from unknown numbers, which in most cases turn into real torture. Behind these spam calls are commercial companies trying to sell their product. The problem is that they are hidden under a common phone number, so they are quite difficult to identify. In addition, the same company usually contacts different numbers, aggravating the situation, since we think that it is someone else.
Spam is also compounded by what is called robocalls, automated calls with pre-recorded messages. This carries a greater danger, since in some cases these robotic messages contain scams to try to impersonate the victim, seize credentials or request credit card information. How to act against all this? There are several ways. From blocking unknown calls, through installing applications or using the famous Robinson list. Keep reading if you want to know each of them in detail.
Block calls
This option is very effective when the number you insist is always the same, and no matter how much we hang up or say we are not interested in your commercial offer, keep calling. If you are an Android user, the method to block calls may vary slightly depending on the model or brand of device you have. For example, Samsung's personalization layer allows blocking of unknown numbers as follows:
- Select the Phone icon on your home screen
- Click on the three-dot menu shown in the upper right corner
- Go into Settings.
- Use this menu to manage the numbers on your Block list
- To automatically block unknown calls, activate the option Block anonymous calls
On the other hand, if you want to block numbers from your call log, you just have to open the Telephone section ; Recents and select a number or contact. Next, go to Details; Menu (three dots in the upper right corner); Lock number.
In the event that your Android phone does not have the option to block calls, you can carry out a little trick: divert calls from a contact to the mailbox. Of course, to do this you will have to have saved the number in the agenda first. Once saved, go to it and enter your edit. Then press the forwarding option "To voicemail". Now whenever that number calls you, it will go directly to the mailbox.
If you are an iOS user, you have two ways to block spam or unknown numbers. The first is from the recent calls tab of the mobile, and the second from the contacts. If you have just received a call and want to block it at that moment, go to the recent calls tab and click on the "i" tab (shown with a blue circle) to access its information. Once inside, click on "Block this contact" so that they stop calling you. If for any reason you have previously saved this number as a contact, you will only have to access it from the contacts and follow the same steps that we have explained.
Install an app
Installing a call blocking app is another way to avoid unwanted spam numbers. One of the most recommended for Android or iOS devices is Truecaller. This app has a database of thousands of registered suspicious numbers, which alerts you so that you know that it is a spam number and you can act accordingly. In this way, once you install the application and receive an unknown number, if it is spam, Truecaller will block it immediately. Truecaller's interface is intuitive and easy to use, so you will have no problem when using it.
Another similar one is Clever Dialer. Clever Dialer Caller ID is the easiest way to block unknown calls or identify them. Actively protects you from unwanted numbers and spam. Of course, it is not possible to identify calls from private numbers. If you receive an unknown number and it is registered in their database, it will be automatically blocked. You can block spam numbers from the app that you do not want to receive again if they are not yet registered in Clever Dialer.
Robinson List
The Spanish Association of the Digital Economy manages the Robinson List, a service that allows you to avoid advertising for free from those companies of which you are not a client or of which you have not given your consent. It works both for telephone spam, as well as for postal mail, email or SMS. Signing up for the Robinson list is as easy as clicking the "sign up for the list" button and following the instructions. After filling in the form, you will receive an email with a link to verify your registration. Once you click on it, you can enter the channels in which you do not want to receive advertising, such as your email or phone numbers.
You need to bear in mind that your registration may take a couple of months to complete. This is because your data could already be used by a commercial campaign already started. In any case, the Robinson list is very effective, since when a company wants to send you personalized advertising without giving you your consent, it is legally obliged to consult it. If you have registered, he will not be able to make calls or messages to your numbers.
