Android 10 has been official for a few hours. The new version of the system comes loaded with more intuitive and intelligent news. At the moment, the update is only coming via OTA (over the air) to Google's Pixel phones. How to update to Android 10 via OTA on a Google Pixel
The normal thing is that if you have a Google Pixel you have received a pop-up message on the screen of the device advising you of the availability of Android 10. If not, you can check it yourself from the settings, system, advanced, updates section system. Download the update and install, always with your own WiFi connection. It is done automatically, so while it is in process we recommend that you do not touch the device. When it is finished it will restart itself and you will be able to enjoy all the news of Android 10.
How to update to Android 10 manually on a Google Pixel
If for any reason the automatic update does not appear and you do not see it in system updates, do not worry because you can update to Android 10 manually in a Google pixel. Of course, for this you will have to be familiar with the ADB commands and follow the following steps:
- Install the binaries on your computer. To do this, download this file on Windows, Mac, or Linux. When you have it, unzip the.zip and run the ADB installer.
- Have a USB cable and your Google Pixel handy.
- Download the system image corresponding to your device from the Google website, but do not unzip it.
- Have USB debugging activated on your mobile. To do this, go to "Settings", "About the phone" and press "Build number" seven times to activate the developer options. Next, go back to “Settings”, “Developer options” and check the “USB Debugging” box. Do not forget to do it with the terminal connected to the PC and give it permissions.
Once you have all of this ready, follow these steps:
- Connect the mobile to the computer with the USB cable.
- Open the terminal and run the adb devices command. Make sure the communication between mobile and PC is correct.
- Run the adb reboot recovery command to put your Google Pixel in recovery mode.
- You will see that the Android logo is displayed with a red exclamation point. Then simultaneously press the "Volume Up" keys and the power button.
- Find "Apply update from adb" using the volume up and down keys and press to access the power button when you have selected it.
- Execute the adb sideload command "filename.zip" in the computer terminal.
- Once this is completed, the.zip file will be sent to the device and the update will begin.
- Once finished, use the volume keys and scroll down to "Reboot the system now." Wait for it to restart.
Although the two processes are valid, the truth is that the first is much simpler. Therefore, only get to work with the second one in case the OTA does not appear after a few days.
My mobile is compatible. Will I be able to update?
You can certainly do it, although you will have to have some patience. You will have to wait for the manufacturer to roll out the update via OTA, which can take a few weeks or even months. Some manufacturers also release their images, so it is possible to install Android 10 by following the above procedure. In any case, never install the factory images that appear on the Google page. These are exclusive to the company's Pixels. If you do, you can end up without a mobile and with an added problem. Therefore, you have no other choice but to wait for Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony and company to officially launch the update. You already know that we will update you as soon as that happens.
What's new in Android 10
As we say, Android 10 is loaded with news and functions. One of the most prominent is the long-awaited dark mode, designed by and to save energy and relax your eyes. This new dark mode can be enabled throughout the system or only in specific apps. On the other hand, Android 10 has included recommended actions. This means that from an action, for example an invitation to the cinema, it will suggest different related actions (search the location of nearby cinemas in Google Maps, current movie billboards…).
As if this were not enough, Android 10 will also block applications that are consuming more battery, and timers will be added for web pages. Likewise, the Google team has promised that with Android 10 users will receive security updates more frequently and in a simpler way: through Google Play.
