Our mobile contains a good part of our private information. Photos, emails, passwords, agenda or contact list, among other things, could remain within the reach of the curious in case they pick up the phone without our permission. That is why the option of using an effective lock and unlock formula can save us from exposing our data.
In this sense, Google developed an unlocking function through facial recognition that since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was launched is already available to users. But there is still more, and it is that from the South Korean Samsung they managed to improve this system with a view to enhancing the shielding that this security measure supposes.
In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S3, in addition, the recognition options linked to the front camera of the device have taken one more step, including new options. But let's go in parts. If you are in possession of a Samsung Galaxy S3 and you have not yet activated the facial recognition function, we invite you to try it to see how useful it can be. To do this, just access the settings menu by pressing, while on the main desktop, the capacitive key to the left of the start button. Once there, look for the Security section.
At this point, click on the Lock screen option, where a new menu will open with several sections to select. The one that interests us is the Facial Unlock. Once we access here we can configure the unlock options.
Although the recognition is very accurate, it is recommended that you do not wear sunglasses or accessories on your face that you do not normally wear. Now we will see why. The system will map your face to recognize features and details that it will then use to collate the image and use it as a basis to unlock the screen.
So far, we find a function that is available on all mobile phones with Android 4.0 ”” even on some with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, such as the first Samsung Galaxy S, thanks to a package of improvements that compensates for the anchoring that this device leaves out from the Google updates roadmap.
However, the guys at Samsung have stretched the possibilities of unlocking through facial recognition a bit more, and in fact, security is improved thanks to options such as blinking the user as part of the routine for unlocking, which still takes hold plus the shield of the device.
In addition, in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S3, the option of unlocking through recognition using the front sensor has been turned around. So much so that even, thanks to the Smart Stay function, the phone can also lock when it knows that we are observing it.
In reality, it is not that it locks, but rather that it recognizes that the user is looking at the screen, so that, although it is configured to go to sleep after a certain number of seconds, the device would keep the screen active until you realize that we have stopped scanning the panel.
