For a couple of days we are officially in the summer season, synonymous with heat, vacations and, for the most fortunate, travel. In the latter case, those who are going to cross the country's borders must be wary of the possible billing charged by their operator for using the mobile phone abroad. We already know that until next year we will have to be attentive with the extra expenses derived from roaming, that rate section that is imposed by the use of networks in another country, so if we do not know the prices that our telephone company manages, more it is convenient for us to catch up.
In case we really want to disconnect, but without resorting to the drastic disconnection of the device, it will be interesting that we cancel access to data networks. We already know that smartphones are in constant communication with other devices over the Internet, but there are ways to block the sensors to avoid scares. Apple's iPhone has its own itinerary to accomplish this task. Until the Californian multinational releases the next version of its operating system, iOS 7, which will happen after the summer precisely, we can follow the following route to disconnect access to mobile networks, as well as data roaming.
To begin, we have to enter the "Settings" panel of the terminal. If we are advanced users, we will already know how to recognize it. For those who have recently been released with the Apple terminal, we will recognize the icon because it is the one with gray tones and small gears inserted in the contours of the button. Once we click there, we must go to the «General» section, which after having opened it will show us a series of actions from which we will choose «Network». At this point, we will have before us the options that interest us to block access to data networks.
Three are the small virtual switches that we will have to override. We are going to recognize the first one because it illustratively indicates "Activate / Deactivate 3G". Logically, by placing it in its off position we will be able to breathe easy once we are out of the country. But still, we will continue to be connected to the Internet. This option prevents us from accessing high-speed networks, but we will continue to have the port open for information transit in 2G. That is why, to be completely sure that there will be no unexpected charges on the bill, we will have to disconnect the sections that we see as "Mobile data" and "Data roaming". After doing this, we can be sure that theiPhone will be banned from the Internet connection.
One detail that must be taken into account to develop the process is that if we are going to execute it to travel abroad, it is important that we do so before crossing the border. That is, if we are going to make the trip by air, before putting it in airplane mode it is interesting that we follow the itinerary described, so that when we land at our destination not a second spends tracking networks, with the consequent billable data traffic.
