Do you have the predictive keyboard and auto-correction activated on your Apple device? This function can be very useful if you want to write faster, as it automatically suggests the words and even fills them in automatically when you notice a misspelling or inconsistency in the phrase. But it can also be tedious, since in many cases the word that we do not want to put is the one that completes itself. So you can disable these options on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. But first, let's see what differences there are between these two features.
What is the predictive keyboard? This function shows words that are related to the phrase we are writing and gives us the possibility to apply them to the text quickly, either by clicking on the strip in the upper area of the keyboard, or by completing the word by pressing the space bar. For example, if you write; "I have to go home to", the predictive keyboard shows you related words: "sleep", "eat", "shower".
What is self-correction? This option corrects the word automatically if it is misspelled (or if the system detects that it is misspelled, since in many cases the word is correct, but it is very similar to another and is changed automatically). For example, if we write “patatas brabas” the misspelled word is changed to “bravas”. The problem is that this option can be somewhat conflicting, because if you write a word several times with the same typo, the autocorrect ends up detecting it as good, and every time I retype the word, it automatically changes with the typo.
Disable predictive keyboard and auto-correction on iPhone and iPad
Option to disable auto-correction and predictive keyboard on iOS (works for iPhone and iPad).
So you can disable keyboard prediction and auto-correct option on iPhone and iPad. Be careful, what this last option does is deactivate that the words change automatically. If a word is apparently misspelled, a red line will still appear.
IPhones and iPads have the same options, so this method works for both devices. First, you will have to go to the system settings. Once inside, click on the 'General' option and click on 'Keyboards'. Where it says 'All keyboards' disables the 'AutoCorrect' option. Then, scroll down and deactivate the option that says 'Predictive'.
From now on the top part with the related words will no longer be shown, and it will not be completed with the correction. To correct the text we will only have to press and select one of the options that appear.
How to disable it on Mac
In the Mac there is no predictive keyboard, but there is the function that corrects the words automatically.
To disable auto-correction on Mac, go to the apple icon at the top. Then, click on 'System Preferences' and click on the option that says 'Keyboard '. In the 'Text' category, uncheck the first box, which says 'Automatically correct spelling'. Again, it will continue to mark the words that the system detects as misspelled, but it will not change them automatically, we will have to do it manually. To correct the text on Mac, right-click the mouse or press with two fingers on the trackPad. Then select the word that you think is correct.
