Optical Reader is the native application with which the Samsung Galaxy S4 is equipped to convert the text captured in a photo from a sign or page into editable characters. It is, to put it in some way, a kind of OCR scanner that reads and writes for us, giving the option of retouching specific words or fragments. Its operation is quite correct, as long as we have a good pulse and frame the photographic capture well. If we are owners of a Samsung Galaxy S4 and we have not yet played with this utility, let's see briefly how it works and what possibilities Optical Reader gives in the South Korean flagship.
When we open the application, we come across three icons on the left. The first, when pressed, toggles the possibility that the system automatically "read" a word, business card or QR code with another option that forces the user to capture a complete slide that can then be selected to specify the areas to interpret. When we see a small cross on the screen, we will have the first available utility; If this cross does not appear, but the icon to capture everything does in the area, we will be in the second. Below we will explain how both options work. The second of the three icons that we have mentioned activates or deactivates the camera flash, while the third activates the translator that also integrates the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Suppose we use the automatic capture and reading system "" remember, we distinguish it by the presence of a small cross on the screen along with the text "place the point in words, contact information or QR codes" ". In this case, we would only have to place the objective on the screen on the word that we want to scan. In a few seconds it will read it and even translate it to the language with which we have previously configured this function. But if what we want to capture text, what we will have to do is resort to the second option described.
In this case, keeping the pulse as steady as possible, we take a photograph of the text to be converted. It is important that we are patient so that the Samsung Galaxy S4 correctly focuses the area to be captured. After this, we select the specific area that interests us and click on the button that we find in the upper right area of the interface. This will take us to the editor. If the photo has been sharp and our pulse has responded, the translation from image to text will be quite accurate. In case something has gone wrong, we will notice misprints which, however, we can correct manually at this time.
Once we have the text correctly formatted, we could share it through various ways, something that has been common among smart phones. Thus, it will be especially useful in order to avoid the process of writing a long text that we have read in a report or book, so that in a few steps we would save the typing to be able to send the text to any of our contacts, either to via email, WhatsApp, social networks or SMS message.
