Before, when we wanted to recommend a device to a person with vision problems, and especially to older people, we spoke directly to you about phones specifically designed for this purpose. That is, terminals designed for the elderly, with large numbers and few functions.
However, the latest Android-powered devices already have enough configuration options to accommodate the needs of anyone with low vision. Thus, if you have myopia or astigmatism problems, you can configure the device in such a way that using it is more comfortable for you.
If you are not sure where to start, we will tell you how to configure your Android mobile if you have myopia or astigmatism in just a few steps. It is easier than you think.
Configure your Android mobile if you have vision problems
If you are a person with vision problems, you should know that Android offers a specific Accessibility section. It is a space from which you can adapt the device interface if you have vision, hearing and motor and cognition problems. What interests us today is to configure the telephone for people with myopia and astigmatism problems:
1. Access the Settings section and click on the General tab. Inside you will find a section called Accessibility. From here you can adjust the phone for people with physical disabilities. Choose specifically the Vision option.
2. Once inside, we recommend that you start the first function. This is TalkBack and it is used to provide voice feedback on the interactions and functionalities of the device. When activated, the system will read the notes to you on the screen, which is undoubtedly very useful for people who are blind or have low vision.
3. The next feature you can enable is Voice Call and Message Notifications. The system will read the information from the messages aloud to you. If you only have myopia or astigmatism, you may find this function a bit excessive. In any case, it is always an option.
4. What will be great for you, especially if you suffer from astigmatism, is to have a larger font size. You can choose up to six different sizes, but the most recommended for this case are Large, Extra large and Giant. Select the option that best suits you by clicking on Font size.
5. Another feature with which you can gain contrast and read better is Bold Text. All text will be highlighted in bold and will certainly be easier to distinguish.
6. You can also adjust the various icons on the screen to be displayed in full screen. A size that is more comfortable for you. By clicking on this option, you will have at your fingertips a selector to enlarge or reduce the icons as you want.
7. Zoom is another feature that can help you improve your experience on board an Android if you have myopia or astigmatism. We recommend activating the Touch Zoom or Window Zoom menu.
Change the colors and contrast of the screen
This may also help you read better read the text and the different options better. We talked about the following options: High Contrast Screen, Color Inversion, and Screen Color Adjustment. You can transform the background of the screen to black and make the text appear white.
Another thing you can do if you have vision problems, such as color blindness, is to change the colors for Protanomaly, Deuteranomaly, and Tritanomaly.
When you have finished configuring all these options, we recommend that you test your experience on board. How do you see everything with the new settings? It would be interesting for you to test its operation and adjust the different options again, if necessary.
