Transferring files between computer and mobile or tablet via cable is still necessary in 2018. Fortunately, most operating systems have standard functions to make the connection between devices as agile as possible. However, Mac (now called macOS) does not have support for Android phones to transfer files natively, so we are forced to resort to third-party applications. Today we will teach you how to connect an Android mobile to Mac in a simple way both through a USB cable and via WiFi and Bluetooth.
Transfer files from Android to Mac via USB
The fastest and simplest way to exchange files between Android and Mac. To do this, the first thing we have to do is download the Android File Transfer program. It is available on the official Android page, and we will only have to install it as if it were a normal application to transfer files from Android to Mac, be it a MacBook Pro, an iMac, a Mac mini or a MacBook Air.
Then we will connect the mobile or tablet to the computer and select the option to Transfer files. A window will automatically appear on Mac with the files hosted on the mobile.
Connect Android to Mac via Bluetooth
Are you not convinced by the previous program? Another way to connect an Android mobile to Mac and exchange files between the two is via Bluetooth, and it will not be necessary to install any application for this. In this case, what we will have to do is activate Bluetooth on both Android and Mac. In the latter, the way to do it will be by going to the section with the same name in System Preferences and activating the aforementioned connection.
Later we will synchronize both devices using the code shown on the screen. Now all we have to do is leave the Bluetooth section and go to the Share section within the same System Preferences. Once there, we will look for the Bluetooth Share option and we will leave the preferences as can be seen in the image above. We recommend that in the option When they explore other devices you leave it marked Never allow.
Finally, to transfer files from Android to Mac, we will select the desired images, videos and elements on Android, we will click Share via Bluetooth and we will choose the computer to which we are connected. They will automatically appear in the Downloads folder (or the one we have selected).
Transfer files to Mac from Android via WiFi
For this method the options are massive. Applications such as Airdroid, Pushbullet or Airmirror can do this easily and simply, however, the one that we propose is even simpler: Telegram. This messaging application supports the sending of all types of files, be they images, photos, videos and files up to 1.5 GB in weight, and is one of the most optimized. The advantage of this over the aforementioned is that we will not need to be connected to the same WiFi network to share files, so we can do it from any device and connection.
Installing it on Android and macOS is very simple: we just have to go to the Mac App Store and the Android Play Store to download them. Now we just have to open the Saved Messages conversation and start sending files to ourselves. The best of all is that these files can be downloaded from other devices, unlike the previous ones. Likewise, these can be classified by typology depending on their format.
