PS4 Remote Play is an application that allows us to access our PlayStation 4 through the WiFi network and using our Android mobile. Thanks to this application we can view the screen of the PS4 on our mobile, join voice chats using the mobile microphone and even use the mobile keyboard to enter text on the console. To use the application we will need a mobile with Android 5.0 or higher, a PS4 with the most recent version of the system software, a PlayStation Network account and a good Internet connection. But what about the controls?
Until recently it was only possible to play games through PS4 Remote Play using the on-screen controls, something quite chaotic and practically useless. However, since the arrival of Android 10, many devices allow the connection of the DualShock 4 to the mobile phone, which makes playing with PS4 Remote Play a really interesting experience.
Unfortunately, it seems that not all mobile devices are compatible with the DualShock 4 controllers. And, according to what we have read on the Internet, there are many Xiaomi users who indicate that they cannot connect the PS4 controller to their mobile. So we wanted to test the PS4 Remote Play application with a Xiaomi Mi 10 with MIUI 12, a customization layer based on Android 10, to tell you if it has worked for us and how we have configured it. Let's go there!
How to connect the PS4 controller to a Xiaomi mobile
The PlayStation 4 controller uses Bluetooth technology to connect to the console, so we shouldn't have too much trouble connecting it to our Xiaomi mobile.
The first thing to keep in mind is that to connect it for the first time we must put the controller in pairing mode. eye! If we only have a PS4 controller, it is more than advisable to first perform the configuration we need on the console, since then we will lose the connection with the controller and we will not be able to do it.
To connect the PS4 with the mobile, we download the PS4 Remote Play application, available in the Google Play Store. Once downloaded we enter and click on Start. It will ask us to enter the details of our PSN Plus account and, when we have already entered them, the application will search for the PS4 on the web. After a few seconds we will have the PS4 on the mobile screen.
If we are sure that we will no longer need the controller connected to the PS4, we will proceed to connect it to the mobile. To do this, all we have to do is press and hold the PS and Share buttons until the LED flashes white.
When the remote's LED is flashing white, we will quickly display the Xiaomi control menu and hold down Bluetooth for a couple of seconds. We will do a search for devices and connect the one that says “Wireless Controller”.
Once the controller is connected to the mobile, the light on the DualShock 4 will turn blue. But unfortunately, although the controller does connect to the mobile, we have verified that it does not work in the PS4 Remote Play application. At least in our case a message has jumped us warning that "the device is not compatible with the PS4 controller."
We have been reviewing the Xiaomi support forums and so far we have not found a solution. Of course, the remote can be used to play any Android game that is compatible with the use of control knobs. We will continue looking for a possible solution to use it with Remote Play on Xiaomi devices and if we find it we will update the article.
