Since the first versions of Android, and more specifically MIUI, it is possible to share data on a Xiaomi. This option allows us to share the Internet via WiFi using our data connection. There is also the possibility of sharing the WiFi network with other users who do not have the original password through a simple QR code. On this occasion we will show you how to share WiFi through these two methods: through the data connection and through a WiFi network to which we are connected.
The steps that we will see below are compatible with any version of MIUI and with any Xiaomi mobile. MIUI 7, MIUI 8, MIUI 9, MIUI 10, MIUI 11 and Xiaomi Mi A1, A2, A2 Lite and A3, Xiaomi Redmi 4, 4X, 5, 6, 7 and 8, Redmi Note 4, Note 5, Note 6 Pro, Note 7 and Note 8 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi 6, Mi 8, Mi 9, Mi 9 Pro, Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro and Redmi 8 Lite, 9 Lite and 9 SE.
How to share data on Xiaomi from a data connection
Sharing the Internet on Xiaomi is really simple. The process is as simple as accessing the System Settings application and clicking on the Portable WiFi Zone section (the options may vary depending on the MIUI version installed).
Once inside, we will activate the Portable WiFi Zone box as long as we have previously activated mobile data. Then, the application will open a pop-up window where we will have to configure some parameters of the WiFi network that we want to generate. The type of security (WPA, WPA2…), the password, the name of the network or the base frequency (2.4 or 5 GHz) are some of the parameters that we can customize.
When we have finished confirming the network, it will be activated and will be accessible to everyone who has provided the network data. Remember that this option will make use of our data connection, so we will have to be careful to avoid that the rate exhausts all available data. Within the section itself we can limit the flow of data for one or more devices connected to the WiFi network at the same time.
Do we want to share the network via Bluetooth or via cable? Depending on the mobile model and MIUI version, we can do it through the same WiFi Zone section. In case the option does not appear, we will have to click on More within WiFi and networks to show us all the available options. The process in both cases is similar, only this time we will have to connect from the Bluetooth connection of another mobile or a USB cable to our computer.
How to share WiFi on Xiaomi from another WiFi connection
If what we want is to share WiFi from another WiFi network to which we are connected without the need for an alphanumeric key, the process in this case is somewhat different from the one followed previously.
Within the Xiaomi Settings application, we will go to the WiFi section and press and hold the WiFi network to which we are currently connected. Then several options will appear: the one that interests us is the Share WiFi network. The application will then generate a QR code in traditional BIDI format.
As simple as scanning the code with another phone through an external application or through the system's WiFi options to connect to the main WiFi network. If we use a third-party app, the code will generate a text string with the password for the network in question. We will have to obtain the code and paste it in the key of the WiFi network to connect automatically.
