'Cooking without hands' was the title that gave its name to one of the most viral challenges on the Internet in 2018. Two years later, technology still does not allow us to cook without hands (human, at least), but we can consult recipes and videos without touching the screen of our mobile. In this sense, the Huawei P40 Pro is the ideal companion. The phone, thanks to its sensors on the front that make it possible to control the interface without touching the screen. Browse a recipe website or take screenshots of any detail… The possibilities in the kitchen are multiplied without staining the mobile.
Cooking without touching the mobile screen is possible with the P40 Pro
Huawei's promise to control the mobile interface without touching the screen has come true with the P40 Pro. This function comes thanks to the photographic sensors in the notch of the phone: specifically by the depth camera to create 3D maps, but also by the luminosity sensor and the proximity sensor.
The combination of these technologies allows us to monitor the movement of the hands in real time, something that is extremely useful in people with mobility problems, not to mention the game that allows us to control the mobile from a distance. Among them the one that concerns us here: being able to move freely throughout the page of the recipe that we are following.
If we are going to make the P40 Pro our kitchen companion, we can slide through the content of a web page by making a simple drag gesture with the hand. To take a screenshot, for example, we can close our hand in front of the camera.
But the possibilities of the telephone do not stop there. To move between slides we can make a gesture of scrolling up and down. In this way, if we have already captured the web with the recipe, we can go through the gallery and jump from one step to another, again, without touching the mobile.
I have a Huawei P40 Pro, how can I activate the gestures in the air?
By default, Huawei's air gestures are disabled by default. To activate them we will have to go to the Accessibility section that we can find in the Settings application.
Within this menu we will go to the Quick Access and Gestures section. Now we will only have to activate the Gestures option in the air to make use of all the functions of the terminal. To enjoy a complete experience we recommend activating all the added options. Displacement in the air, Capture by grip…
We can review all the possibilities in Tutorial, where we will also be shown different gestures to apply them on the phone. Before performing the gestures, yes, we will have to place the palm of the hand firmly on the screen for the system to make a recognition. The phone will automatically notify us with the icon of a hand.
"The most interesting thing about this" hands-free "technology is that it opens up a world of enormous possibilities, on which we can continue to build and offer our users more and more ways to handle and take advantage of the technology of their smartphones" highlighted Fabio Arena Product Manager of Huawei CBG Spain in the presentation of the P40 Pro.
