Table of contents:
MIUI is the name given to the customization layer of Xiaomi brand devices (with permission from the Mi A1 and Mi A2, which have pure Android). This layer includes more customization, a greater number of pre-installed applications (some, actually, of little use as a shortcut to the MIUI forum) and, in general, gives the user a greater number of on-demand adjustments. It has both detractors and defenders and it is something you will have to deal with if you decide to acquire one of the terminals of the Chinese brand.
This layer, despite having a fairly high update rate and incorporating functions that, later, the pure Android layer itself will adopt, such as on-screen gestures, is not without its flaws. And one that brings users of the recent Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 to their head is related to the persistent icons of the notifications in the status bar. Because of the notch, the notifications do not remain on the bar and the user must lower the curtain to see what notifications they have pending to read. And, although a future update solves this problem, we have a solution to solve the error.
Fix notifications problem on Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and other notched mobiles
This error has been found not only in the recent Redmi Note 7, but also in other notched terminals of the brand such as the Pocophone F1, Xiaomi Mi 9 or Xiaomi Redmi 7. To find a momentary solution we can download a practical application that it's called Notch Notifications for MIUI. It is a free application that we can find in the Google Play Store, which offers purchases inside and has a fairly light weight of only 1.7 MB.
Once we have the application installed and we open it for the first time, we must give permission to all the points that appear so that we can enjoy it. If you have given all the permissions correctly, you will see how, under the clock in the status bar, you will find a series of small overlay icons, which are the notifications that you have pending. The aesthetic effect is not something that will be to everyone's liking, but it is the best we have found to fix this little problem. And, in addition, it is totally free.
In the tool settings we will be able to decide the size of these icons as well as the exact location of their location in the status bar. There are three values that appear on the configuration screen: 'x padding', 'y padding' and 'Icon size'. The first two numbers refer to the placement of the icons, if you want them to be a little further to the right or a little further to the left. In 'Icon Size' we will be able to choose the size of said icons, in addition to being able to choose that, in full screen or 'Full Screen' format, these icons are also hidden.
In the free version of 'Notch Notifications for MIUI' we can choose only one icon color (white) although two shapes for the background, circular or without a background. The paid version of the application costs 1.10 euros and the user must assess whether it is worth the outlay.
Let's hope that Xiaomi, in an upcoming update of the MIUI layer, will release the patch sooner rather than later to fix this small problem that seems to bring many users upside down.
