"My mobile does not detect 5GHz WiFi", "Detect 5G WiFi network", "Configure 5GHz WiFi"… Activating the 5GHz WiFi on our router from Android is a relatively simple task, although it generally depends on the router model and the telephone company. Before accessing the router configuration, it is advisable to check that all devices connected to the Internet are compatible with 5G WiFi networks. After carrying out the respective checks, we can proceed to activate 5G WiFi on Android by accessing the router settings.
First of all, how can I know if my mobile has 5 GHz WiFi?
To make sure that our mobile supports 5G WiFi networks, we will have to check that our phone is compatible with bands A, N and AC, that is, a / n / ac, through the manufacturer's website. In the event that our mobile only supports the B, G, N bands, that is, b / g / n, it is most likely that it is only compatible with 2.4 GHz WiFi networks.
It may also be the case that our device is compatible with WiFi 6. In this case, the specification will be indicated with the initials AX, that is, ax /.
How to enable 5 GHz WiFi on Android in a simple way
Once we have made sure that our mobile supports 5 GHz networks, we can proceed to activate the 5 GHz WiFi on Android. To enable the 5 GHz network in our router, the first thing we will have to do is go to the router configuration, which we can access by typing the following IP address in the mobile browser (Google Chrome, Mi Explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc.):
- 192.168.1.1
Once inside the configurator, the router manufacturer will ask us to enter a username and password, as we can see in the following image:
Generally, the password is the same as the default password for the WiFi network, although the operator has likely created a separate password. Both will be stamped on the sticker that is included with the device. If not, we can try the following credentials:
- admin and admin
- 1234 and 1234
- 12345 and 12345
- 0000 and 0000
- 00000 and 00000
- user and user
- admin1234 and admin1234
Within the router configuration, we will navigate to the WiFi option that we can see in the screenshot below.
If our device is relatively modern, it is most likely that it has a setting called 'WiFi 5G', 'WiFi 5 GHz' or 'a / n / ac'. Otherwise, we can access this setting through the Advanced options section.
Finally we will activate the 5 GHz network by clicking on the activate button. Before leaving the router configuration we will make sure to apply the changes. We will then restart the router to ensure that the activation of the 5 GHz network is successful. Now yes, we can connect from any compatible device with the same password that we have used to access the 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
Advantages of 5 GHz WiFi over 2.4 GHz WiFi
The biggest and best advantage of the 5 GHz WiFi network has to do with speed. In theory, the maximum transfer speed reaches 860 Mbps, while the 2.4 GHz network only reaches peaks of up to 60 Mbps.
Another advantage of this type of network has to do with the number of supported channels, which directly affects the stability of the connection in environments with a high number of available WiFi networks. On the other hand, the reach is much smaller, as it has a lower penetration capacity in walls and wide walls.
