Thanks to a beta version, it is now possible to activate the dark mode in Google Chrome for Android. The option is not available directly through the browser app, but we will have to take some previous steps.
What is dark mode
Dark mode is a function that allows you to enjoy the most used applications on your phone by replacing the white background with a black or gray background.
Thanks to the dark mode, therefore, we save battery and reduce discomfort to the eyes. It is especially appreciated at night or in low-light environments where the intense white of the smartphone is annoying.
Dark mode is already available, for example, on Twitter or Facebook Messenger. In addition, the new version of Android (Android 10 Q) will already bring the dark mode for the phone settings as standard.
How to activate dark mode in Google Chrome for Android
After a long time of waiting, we can now enjoy the dark mode also in the Google Chrome browser for Android. Of course: at the moment it is a function in beta, which will have to continue to improve so that it is available on a large scale.
The first thing you need to do is download the beta version of the browser from Google Play: Chrome Beta.
When you have installed the application on your phone, open it and type "chrome: // flags" in the address bar. This will give you access to a large number of test functions available. Then search for “dark” in the search area that appears on the page.
Two results will be displayed: “Android web contents dark mode” and “Android Chrome UI dark mode”. Both will appear in the default state (“Default”). Select the option "Enabled" in these menus to activate them.
You will then need to close the app and reopen it for the changes to take effect. And everything will be ready! You can surf the Internet enjoying the contents in a dark way.
Remember that to enjoy the function you have to use the Chrome Beta app and not the standard version of Google Chrome for Android. We will still have to wait for the dark mode to be available to all users through the standard version.
