It is likely that you have already noticed this function, and it is that Samsung has taken it to the collection of shortcuts in the notification bar. You just have to unfold it and navigate to the end of the functions by scrolling to the right. Near the bottom of the list is Edge Screen Lighting, the feature we're talking about.
There are different ways to activate this visual warning on the curved screen. By clicking on its name a new, more complete menu with different options is displayed. In this it is explained that, to avoid filling the notification screen, this visual warning is taken to the margins of the panel as an alert. And it offers three options for this: only when the screen is on, only when the screen is off, or always. It must be taken into account that, if the first option is chosen, this lighting will replace the notifications. And if this prompt is chosen when the screen is off, it will replace the pop-up notifications.
From this moment on, a WhatsApp, a new email or any notice in the form of a notification will be seen with a thin purple line (or the color of the chosen theme), bordering the entire screen. Both in the curved edges and in the rest of the screen. Something that is quite subtle, without being a bright warning as colorful as the LED warning. Very discreet, useful and elegant for those who prefer to take a quick glance at the screen when the mobile vibrates and confirm that there are new alerts, but without having a disco full of lights in their pocket.
Customizing the Edge display illumination
If you are one of those who enjoys customizing every detail of your mobile, you should know that you also have options for these types of notifications. And not a few. From color to width, going through different ways of making it appear. Something that allows us to marry the flash of the notification with any wallpaper, lock screen or theme that we have chosen for our Samsung Galaxy S9 or Samsung Galaxy S9 +.
Just go to the terminal screen settings, where you can find the Edge Screen menu. Here again we find the Edge screen lighting option, in which to enter to configure all aspects of this striking visual effect. Inside we find a screen with the same options seen in the notification bar. But in addition, there are two new submenus that focus on lighting style and managing the applications that can make use of this prompt.
If we choose Edge Lighting Style we go to the configuration menu itself. Here are all the available options. On the one hand, there is the Effect, which displays four modes to display the warning: basic, multicolored, brightness and flash. The second option is Color, where you can choose the tone of the line at will.
