BQ has announced the launch of its new terminal, the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus. A mid-range Chinese- made terminal with a 5-inch screen and Full HD resolution, metallic design, fingerprint reader, an eight-core processor, a 3,200-milliamp battery and a photographic set signed by Sony. But what makes the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus really special is that it will be the first mobile phone on this continent that works with the Galileo satellite navigation system.
This Galileo is a European positioning system project similar to the American GPS. A composite system, input by 30 satellites and, now it seems that by 26, which will be fully operational in 2020. Now, with the 11 that they have working they have announced that the system will come to light in tests before the end of 2016. With this in mind, BQ, now launch this mobile. Next, we tell you all the details of the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus and a quick look at the Galileo navigation system.
The BQ Aquaris X5 Plus terminal was presented as part of the Mobile World Congress 2016 that was held in Barcelona at the beginning of the year. The terminal has a price that places it in the mid-range, but this terminal offers some improved features. For example, you are having a thickness of only 7.7 mm. Complete the terminal measures are 145 x 70 x 7.7 mm, with a weight of 145 grams (slightly heavy for its size). In addition, the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus mounts a 5-inch screen with Full HD resolution, a density of440 dots per inch and a brightness of 620 nits. The screen includes Quantum Color + technology and is protected with Dinorex.
Inside the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus we find a Snapdragon 652 processor from the Qualcomm company. This chipset includes eight cores running at 1.8 GHz and an Adreno 510 GPU up to 550 MHz. The processor can be accompanied by 2 or 3 GB of RAM, depending on the model we choose. We will also have two internal storage capacities available, a model with 16 GB capacity and another with 32 GB capacity.
As for the photographic section, the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus features a rear 16 megapixel camera and sensor Sony IMX298, 6 lenses Largan and aperture of f / 2.0. In addition, it allows 4K video recording, incorporates phase detection focus (PDAF), Dual Tone Flash and Night Shot mode, to achieve good results in low light environments. As for its front camera of 8 megapixels, it has a sensor Sony IMX219, aperture of f / 2.0 and functionsFace Beauty and Selfie Indicator. The front camera enables 1080p video recording at 60fps.
The BQ Aquaris X5 Plus has a headphone output and they have achieved the Dolby certificate. In terms of connectivity, the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus will be launched with support for 4G networks, 2.4 and 5 GHz Dual Band Wi-Fi (802.11ac), Dual SIM and NFC, in addition to GPS + GLONASS + Galileo. Regarding autonomy, the new BQ terminal incorporates a 3,200 milliamp battery.
As we mentioned at the beginning, the BQ Aquaris X5 Plus will be compatible with the Galileo navigation system. After years of development, accidents and delays, the European Galileo geolocation system seems like it wants to start working. The system started in the 1990s and was officially announced in 2003. A group of European countries started it to reduce the dependency that we have in the Old Continent with respect to North American GPS satellites or Russian GLONASS. The problem is that Galileo has suffered all kinds of accidents. Sincea pair of French satellites deployed in wrong orbit, up to one of the first 4 deployed by the Astrium firm, which has problems with its antenna. Galileo will begin to serve at full capacity when it has its 26 satellites deployed (originally there were going to be 30). The European consortium estimates that it could be fully operational in 2020. However, harassed by the ineffectiveness of the system in decades and pressured by the European Parliament, Galileo wants to take a look at the public. This year, with 11 satellites in orbit, have announced that before the end of 2016 they want to start testing. Within this framework, the BQ firm has launched to market this Aquaris X5 Plus. It will be available from July 28 in two colors: Black / Anthracite Gray and White / Rose Gold; and in two different combinations: 2GB + 16GB for 280 euros and 3GB + 32GB for 320 euros.
