Bluboo has shown its new Bluboo S2 at the MWC in Barcelona , a terminal that stands out for its screen without frames and for the system that the company has chosen to place the front camera. And is that this terminal has a single rotating camera. That is, we have it placed in the back, but it can be lifted. With this system the company achieves a design without frames and without an annoying camera.
Using virtually frameless displays is a great challenge for engineers. But perhaps the biggest headache is where to place the front camera. We have seen different options, but none of them have just convinced. On the iPhone X, Apple placed it on a kind of island in the middle of the screen (the famous notch). Xiaomi, for example, chose to place it in the lower right corner of the bottom frame on the Mi MIX 2. Now, Bluboo has pulled another way of including the front camera up its sleeve.
The Bluboo S2 equips a 5.99-inch screen with FHD + resolution and 18: 9 format. The body-screen ratio stands at more than 80%. To achieve this the company has removed the top edge entirely. So where is the front camera? Well, we have it located in the back.
Rotary chamber
The Bluboo S2 has a unique camera with a 21-megapixel Sony sensor and f / 1.8 aperture. When located at the rear it works as the main camera. But we can also lift it and place it on the terminal, thus being able to use it as a front camera.
Without a doubt, an ingenious solution, which will have to be thoroughly tested to see if it is really useful. For example, it would be necessary to check the durability of the hinge that allows the camera to rotate.
As for the technical set, the Bluboo S2 equips a MediaTek Helio P25 processor. This is accompanied by 4 or 6 GB of RAM, with 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. The battery is 4,200 mAh.
In addition, Bluboo ensures that the Bluboo S2 will go on sale with Android 8.0 Nougat from stock. Of course, there are some common extras such as facial recognition or the fingerprint reader. We will see if this company's solution creates a trend or remains an anecdote.
At the moment the Bluboo S2 has only been shown at the MWC. It has not been officially presented, but it could hit the market at the end of April with a price between 200 and 250 euros.
