Mobile phones increasingly have better cameras. So much so that it was a matter of time before they developed their own intelligence. Or, at least, that's what Samsung wants. The cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 + have a new augmented reality tool. Bixby Vision. We tell you how it works and the options it offers.
Bixby Vision has its own eye icon on the camera interface of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 +. This icon appears at all times (even on the selfie camera), but it only works with the main sensor.
The first thing we have to do is accept the conditions of Bixby Vision and give it the necessary permissions to function. It is also likely that the first time we use it we will have to update to the latest available version of this tool.
Search for related images, places and products in store
The Bixby Vision tool has three different functions. When we have activated this mode, it automatically begins to detect the objects and places that we have within the frame. Once an object or location has been detected, a box is displayed around the item. It is at that moment when we will have the option to search with one of the icons on the right side.
The first option is to search for images related to the object or place. Bixby Vision pulls the image bank of. Admittedly, at least for the moment, this search is somewhat imprecise and many of the results are likely to surprise us.
The second option is to search for information related to a place. As expected, it will only work when Bixby detects that we are framing a photo of a building or landscape. In this case, the information comes from the Foursquare social network. In addition, it also allows us to use augmented reality to know sites that are close to our current position. These sites appear in the form of 3D cards in the direction in which they are with their star rating and the distance to which they are.
Finally, the option that has more travel in the Samsung Galaxy S8 + and Samsung Galaxy S8 camera is the one that allows us to analyze an object and search for related products directly from an online store. At the moment, this tool is limited to Amazon's results here in Spain. However, it is likely that in the coming months it will be extended to other online stores to expand its functionality.
