Ready for virtual reality
The Asus ZenFone AR draws attention for many things. But the main one, without a doubt, is its camera system compatible with augmented and virtual reality. The company has called this system Asus TriCam.
The Asus TriCam system is made up of a camera with 23 megapixels of resolution, another that follows the movement of subjects and a third that detects the depth of spaces. Together, they allow you to create a three-dimensional model of the environment.
On the one hand, the motion-tracking camera allows the ZenFone AR to know its position while we move. On the other hand, the depth detection camera is equipped with an infrared (IR) projector that allows calculating the distance at which objects are located. Finally, the camera with 23 MP resolution allows virtual objects to be placed in a real space with a great level of detail.
This system makes the Asus ZenFone AR compatible with Tango, the reality system. Through Tango we can enjoy augmented reality experiences. As of today, there are already plenty of AR applications compatible with Tango on Google Play.
On the other hand, with the Asus ZenFone AR we can also enjoy Daydream. The large screen and resolution of this mobile allows you to enjoy virtual reality with great realism. In addition, with Daydream View we can take advantage of all the options that applications such as YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and HBO give us.
Photographic set at the height
But the new Asus terminal is not only focused on virtual reality. It also includes a photographic set worthy of any high-end terminal.
Asus returns to using the PixelMaster 3.0 system that we saw in the Asus ZenFone 3. However, this time we will have an even more advanced camera. The 23 megapixel Sony IMX318 sensor is joined by the following technologies:
- 4-axis Electronic Image Stabilization (OIS) and 3-axis Electronic Stabilization (EIS) for shooting video and capturing stable photos.
- System autofocusing ASUS TriTech able to focus in 0.03 seconds. It is a system that combines phase detection, laser and subject tracking.
- Super Resolution mode (92 MP) that combines 4 photos of 23 MP to create a single image much more detailed and with less noise.
- 3 MP Low Light mode that combines 4 adjacent pixels to increase the sensor's light sensitivity by up to 400%.
If to all this we add compatibility with the RAW format, 4K video recording and manual controls, we have a high-flying camera.
A lot of power inside
To deal with virtual reality you need a very powerful technical set. The Asus ZenFone AR is equipped with a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor. Accompanying the processor we have 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.0 storage.
As for the screen, we have a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED panel. The company has decided to use a WQHD resolution to get a better experience in virtual reality.
Apart from all this technology, the Asus ZenFone AR presents an original design with a back cover covered in burnished leather. This is complemented by a metal frame and stainless steel details. In short, a luxurious-looking design and premium materials.
As we said, the Asus ZenFone AR is already available in the market with a price of 900 euros.
