Although data rates have been increasing over time, some even offer unlimited data, it is true that many users still have the right ones to navigate. This is common for Android or iOS users. However, if you have an iPhone, you notice that you run out of megabytes 10 days after the start of the month, and you no longer know what to do to spend as little as possible, you may be interested in knowing what WiFi Assistance is.
This function came out with iOS 10. It has rained a lot since then and the platform is already on version 13, but it continues to appear in the settings, and also activated by default in most cases. Basically, WiFi Assist serves to support our data connection. Imagine that you are in a place where there is open WiFi, such as a restaurant or library, and you take the opportunity to take a look at the latest posts on Instagram or Facebook, two great mega consumers.
As happens many times, it is possible that the WiFi is saturated, we are far from where the router is located, in short, that the connection is very weak. In that case, if you have WiFi Assist activated, your iPhone will detect that the signal is insufficient and will use your data connection without you even being aware of it. This means that without you knowing it, you will be wasting data, since the WiFi icon will continue to appear at the top of the screen.
In this case, it is best to deactivate this option to ensure that when the WiFi signal is insufficient you will not be pulling data if you do not want to. To do this, go to Settings, Mobile Data and go to the bottom of the screen until you find WiFi Support. As we say, it is normally activated by default. Just slide the lever to the left to deactivate it. If you look closely, you will see the megabytes you have consumed using this configuration. You can get a big surprise.
Keep in mind that to control data usage, iOS shows you a breakdown of what each app is spending. In this way, you will always know which one you spend more or less on. To see it, go back into Settings, Mobile data. Here, all the apps you have installed will be shown with the consumption of megabytes of each of them in order from highest to lowest. If you are not interested in consuming data with a specific app, just turn the lever to the left to disable data roaming for it.
