Until recently, Apple did not accept any iPhone previously repaired with non-original third-party components in its official repair service. The truth is that in 2017 Apple changed this policy, admitting terminals with third-party screens. Apparently, very soon it will also do it with the batteries, as revealed by internal documents of the Californian to which MacRumors has had access.
According to this new report, Genius Bar technicians will be able to continue repairing any type of internal component of a damaged iPhone, although when opening it the presence of an unofficial battery was detected. Currently, if your phone has a damaged speaker, camera or microphone, for example, you take it to the Apple Store and it is discovered that it no longer includes the official Apple battery, the technicians do not proceed with the repair, despite that the iPhone is under warranty.
Likewise, for repairs that are related to the battery as such, authorized technicians and suppliers will have the permission to replace the batteries of other manufacturers with official batteries of the company at a standard price. From MacRumors they claim that they can also replace the entire iPhone for the value of a battery replacement in case the battery tabs are broken, have excess adhesive or are missing.
The updated guidelines came into effect last Thursday and should be applied worldwide. Of course, Apple will continue to reject service for damaged iPhones that equip third-party components such as cases, microphones, lightning connectors, headphone connectors, volume and on / off buttons, speakers, cameras, etc. That is, everything unofficial that are not screens or batteries.
Without a doubt, this is good news, especially considering Apple's very closed ecosystem. Now you can repair your battery in a cheaper service, and later, if you are interested, take the phone to technical service for any other problem, knowing in advance that they will not reject it.
