- China, one of the countries in which sales have fallen the most
The latest financial results offered by Apple are not as rosy as many expected. These correspond to the company's first quarter of 2019, which also includes Christmas season purchases, part of 2018.
According to this earnings report, Apple achieved revenues of $ 84.3 million in the last three months, which means a 5% drop compared to the previous year. In total, the income obtained from the sale of iPhones fell by up to 15% compared to the previous year, while the total income from the rest of products increased by 19%.
It is also the first drop in revenue that Apple has recorded in a Christmas season and since the iPhone has been on the market, more than a decade ago. If we take into account that this is one of the periods in which more electronic devices are marketed, we are faced with an exceptional situation.
The fact is that now, the Cupertino would have made the decision to offer cheaper iPhones in some countries. But how will it be possible?
IPhone price adjustments in some countries
Apple says it plans to adjust prices for iPhones in countries where the foreign currency and its weaknesses have made the devices excessively expensive. In fact, Tim Cook points to the power of the US dollar as the direct source of the increase in the iPhone. In fact, the most expensive device in the Apple catalog can exceed $ 1,500. We are talking about the iPhone XS Max, a device with a practically prohibitive price.
Cook explained that after analyzing the situation, they have thought that it would be best to lower prices in some markets where the economy is less stable. Turkey is, for example, one of the countries where the cost of getting an iPhone will be reduced. With this initiative they believe that they will be able to make purchasing more accessible and that, consequently, they will be able to improve sales in these countries.
China, one of the countries in which sales have fallen the most
The Apple company has fierce competitors in China. Manufacturers that develop phones from there and can offer them cheaper to customers are gaining ground. Hence, these sales results corresponding to the first quarter of 2019 are weaker in China. In addition, prices can rise a lot in those regions with devalued currencies.
Although Apple has made no losses, its goal is to make up for this small decrease in revenue as soon as possible. At the moment, Tim Cook has not offered details on which countries will be the ones that will see the price of the iPhone reduced in stores.
