The feuds that Apple is brewing could be very expensive… literally. Yesterday we told you that the Japanese company Sharp would have recognized before the Cupertino multinational a series of technical difficulties in the production of the screens that we would see in the iPad 3 (a new type of panel that doubles the resolution of the latest apple tablet).
In light of this setback, DigiTimes assured that the launch that was reserved for this second quarter of the year, was postponed to 2012. Of course: always considering the officiousness of this information.
This situation, in the mouth of the analysts consulted by DigiTimes, would force Apple to look for new suppliers. Toshiba is one of the candidates (the Californian company already made a significant investment last year for the construction of a new plant in Japan where Toshiba would be responsible for the production of the panels of future devices), but also LG (responsible for the screen of the iPhone 4) and, of course, Samsung, a leading manufacturer of panels.
However, with a view to not depending on the two South Korean multinationals, which are direct rivals in the sale of terminals, Apple would have redirected its forecasts in the direction of Sharp again, according to Reuters news agency today.
Based on the information that has been published, those in Cupertino would be seriously considering the possibility of making a new investment, this time of 1.2 billion dollars (about 830 million euros, at the current exchange rate), with a view to ensuring that Sharp has sufficient means to reach a successful conclusion in the development of the supplies required by the multinational of the block.
