The sales of the Apple iPad work very well around the world. Last week, we told you that just over 68 percent of the tablets that were sold on the planet were from Apple, according to IDC data for the second quarter of 2011, reaching almost 27 percent those that work with the Android system. But in Spain, the behavior is different.
In our country, according to data published by the same consultancy, Apple almost feels the breath on the back of the neck of all manufacturers that work with the Google platform. And it is that, globally, the tablets that carry the Android system (in any of its versions) sold 47 percent of all devices in this segment in Spain, compared to 50 percent represented by the iPad (which works with iOS).
The residual three percent refers to devices that work with other platforms, including the RIM PlayBook, which only in Europe placed about 93,000 units, 46.3 percent of the sales that the same device had in the entire roster (which together accounted for just under five percent of tablet sales worldwide).
In total, between the months of April and June of this year, some 122,000 units of Apple's iPad were sold. The Acer Taiwan has the second place, with 21,000 of its various tablets in the hands of as many customers (8.6 percent of the total quota for the quarter). It is followed by the Korean Samsung with sales amounting to 17,000 units in that period (almost seven percent) and the Taiwanese also HTC with 10,000 terminals sold of its only available device, the HTC Flyer (almost 4.1 percent).
Taking a look at the figures, it is not difficult to deduce that the Apple terminal continues to enjoy a wide range of popularity among the public. Not so, the platform, which in 2012 could be covered up by Google's system. The growth of the sector in our country has been manifested in sales that are almost 250 percent above what was experienced last year in the same period (when the market was represented almost literally by the iPad in lonely). Following this curve, Android's business margin as a whole could exceed that of the iPad over the next period.
