Few worse things can happen to us today, not including the really vital and important things in life, than losing our cell phone on the street. To find it if you lose it, or if it is stolen, there are numerous tools at your disposal, among them the one provided, officially, by Google itself. Its name is Android Device Manager (something like 'Android Device Manager) and you can download it for free from the application store. Its installation file is very light, so you can download it, urgently, on a friend's phone, if you have lost your device.
What is and how does Android Device Manager work?
Of course, you have to take into account, mainly, that for this application to find your mobile it must always have the GPS activated. The battery drain of having the GPS always on is not too great and can save you from trouble. What Android Device Manager does is a tracking of your terminal, using for this the location services, which are supposed to be activated, on the terminal that is lost.
How to install Android Device Manager
In order to locate your lost phone, you must have the Android Device Manager application installed on your mobile. To locate it, you must open this application on a web page or on another Android phone that must also have it installed. From here you can see where your phone is, make it ring, erase the data and lock the lost device and check the status of the battery. Once we install it on our phone, we enter with our Google account and grant geolocation permissions. Next, a map will appear with the location of the mobile duly marked.
The screen will show the mobile phone model, the battery it has left, the network it is connected to at the moment and various options, such as playing sound, locking the device and deleting its content. And that's it, your phone will already be protected from losses. To locate it on another device, you will have to enter the Android Device Manager app installed on another phone with your Google account or through Android Device Manager Web.
How to use Android Device Manager Web
You can use the web version of Android Device Manager to locate your lost phone. To do this, turn on your computer and enter the application's website. The lost phone will automatically appear located on the map, being able, remotely, to make it ring, delete its content and block it so that they cannot use it. Through this last option, you can also send a personalized message to communicate with whoever has your mobile.
How to find a device by IMEI
The IMEI number is the one that appears on the box of your device and is like the license plate of your phone, a personal and non-transferable number series that only belongs to your phone and no one else. It is a number that you must keep safe, away from the eyes of others. It usually comes on a label attached to the back of your phone, a sticker that you must remove from it and stick it, for example, inside the terminal box, so as not to lose it and always have it in a safe place, although located.
Thanks to the IMEI number we will be able to find our phone using the GPS. All we have to do is download an application from the Google Play Store called ' IMEI Tracker - Find my device '. It is a tool that will not cost you a penny, although you will have to 'suffer' in exchange for the occasional ad. You can download it from this link in the Google Play application store and its file size is just over 8 MB, so you don't have to worry about the mobile data of your rate.
For this application to work correctly we will have to give it three permissions: call by phone, access the photos and multimedia content of it and, of course, the location of the same. Once the installation is complete and the permissions have been given, we will have to access the application through our Google account. Through this access, the application will be able to access your name, your email address and your profile picture.
Here we leave you this option in case you think it is convenient to use it but we think it is better that you stick to using Android Device Manager. The IMEI Tracker application, in our opinion, requests too many permissions that, a priori, it would not have to request them. For example, the Android Device Manager tool only asks for permissions to read the location. Use this application at your own risk.
How to change a mobile password with Android Device Manager
You may be wondering if we are going to be able to change the password of our mobile phone thanks to the Android Device Manager tool. In previous versions, we could set a new password thanks to this application, but currently, we can only carry out the three operations that we have indicated previously. These are:
- Make the device sound loud and loud even when it is silent. The mobile will continue to ring for five minutes.
- Device lock. With this option we will log out of our Google account, preventing the owner of our phone from accessing our personal data. If you want to leave a message to whoever has your mobile in their possession, you can leave it through this section.
- Clear device data. Leave the mobile as fresh from the factory, remotely.
