The Samsung Developer Conference held two days ago has been a turning point for the South Korean company. In the aforementioned conference, they not only announced their flexible phone, they also confirmed the official release of the Android 9 Pie beta for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Note 9. Nothing was said about the rest of the company's models, beyond that they would not receive One UI, Samsung's new interface for its high-end mobiles. Recent reports confirm that another mobile from the company is preparing to receive the latest version of Android. We refer to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, whose Android 9 Pie ROM would already be in the development phase to be released soon.
Android 9 Pie ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 could arrive in January
We have said it dozens of times: it seems that Samsung is putting the batteries this year with the update of its devices, especially with the high-end ones. After the official announcement of Android 9 Pie for the Galaxy S9 and Note 9, the Note 8 will be the next Samsung mobile to receive the last slice of Android cake.
This is confirmed by Sammobile, the well-known firmwares page for Samsung mobiles. This confirmation would be based on a recent renumbering in the ROMs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. To date, the versions of the system based on Android Oreo had a similar numbering to N950FXXS5CRJ6. Of all these digits and letters, the one that indicates the Android version is the fourth from the right. In this case it would be the 'C' which indicates that it is a ROM based on Android Oreo. The latest leak changes this letter to a 'D'. This means that a new version of the system is on the way, although it would still be in the testing phase, possibly in alpha state.
As for your departure date, we cannot confirm anything at the moment. From the Sammobile page they confirm that January could be a possible date for its official launch, although it is likely to be delayed because it is in January when the first versions of Android 9.0 for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Note 9 are released. The news is that, as has happened with other devices of the brand, it is likely that a beta version will be leaked weeks or months before. Either way, the only thing we can do is wait for Samsung to confirm its development or for the beta ROM of Android 9 Pie to leak.
