Android 4.0, the source code is now free to download
Although it was expected to arrive with Google's new mobile -the powerful Samsung Galaxy Nexus-, the source code of the new Google icons (Android 4.0) are now available for download, completely free. And it is that Google has released the source code in the Open Source Project or open source in English, so that all users who want to can download it.
This was made clear by one of the Google developers working on the project named Jean Baptiste Queru in his profile on the social network. The version that has been posted on the servers of the Internet giant corresponds to the version that will be used exclusively by the new mobile phone from Mountain View and which is named: Android 4.0.1.
Therefore, the code that has been released will only be used by developers to create new versions or images of the system for use in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. That is, developers who create different ROMs - that's what the different software distributions are called that make all hardware components work - will be able to create new versions but that only work on the new official Google mobile.
To get a version that works correctly with the different terminals on the market, we will still have to wait a bit. This is what Jean Baptiste Queru has commented on Google+. However, this fact is also surprising, since with the previous version - the version for Honeycomb touch tablets -, its code was not released to the general public.
However, with Android 4.0 the situation is different. And it is that Ice Cream Sandwich will be icons that will work both on advanced mobile phones and on touch tablets. In this way, version fragmentation will be reduced and the applications that the developers prepare will work in both the sector and the other.
