At the next MWC in Barcelona we hope to meet LG's new flagship, the LG G8. After a year in which the Korean manufacturer followed the market guidelines by launching two good but not too different high-end terminals, it seems that in 2019 they want to surprise us again. According to leaked information, the LG G8 will arrive with a system that will allow it to double the size of its screen.
As a person related to the project has informed Cnet, it will not be a folding phone. Rather, it will be a kind of housing, it will include an additional screen that we can put on and remove. That is, we can add a second screen if, at a specific moment, we need more display space. It sounds strange, but it would not be the first time that LG has experimented with external modules in its terminals.
This option reminds us a bit of the ZTE Axon M, one of the first dual-screen mobiles to hit the market. However, it seems that the LG G8 will have much less frame between the two displays, thus improving the user experience. Could this be the foldable phone that's been rumored for a long time? We will have to wait for the MWC to find out.
Will this be the LG G8?
LG's path in the smartphone market has been quite stormy. The company has not just seduced users with any of its proposals, not being able to compete even remotely with other manufacturers. They have tried practically everything in the last few years. From its striking smartphone with modules, the LG G5, to a mobile with a double screen.
However, last year they chose to offer a mobile with similar characteristics to those of other high-end mobiles. Both the LG G7 and the LG V40 were very good terminals, but they were not successful either. So this year they could pull out a new revolution with the idea of attracting the attention of the market.
At the moment we do not even know if the commented mobile with additional screen will be the LG G8. The company could choose to launch a more "normal" terminal with this nomenclature and try its luck with a "special" model to see how the public receives it. Or, perhaps, considering that they have already introduced the rollable TV, LG could become the first manufacturer to launch the aforementioned folding mobile. We'll find out at the end of February.
