Do you have a limited data rate on your Huawei mobile? You are likely to run out of GB quickly: one video on YouTube, four messages on WhatsApp and three stories on Instagram is enough to run out of data. Here you will find 9 tricks that you probably did not know and that will help you save some data on your mobile.
1) Disable mobile data downloads from the App Gallery
Huawei Mobile Services are already available on most of the company's devices. These are updated through the App Gallery. By default, the application store does not warn if we want to download an app with data, but it is likely that we will not even read the message and press accept without meaning to. It is advisable to disable the download of apps with data and automatic updates.
To do this, go to AppGallery and click on the 'me' category. Then tap on Settings. In the option 'Download applications with mobile data', select 'no'. Finally, deactivate the option of 'Update notifications', so that it does not warn you and accidentally download with mobile data.
2) Set a monthly data limit
An interesting option if you want to save data to use it on a trip. This function is used, above all, for those rates that allow you to accumulate megabytes for the following month. In the system settings of our Huawei mobile we can choose a monthly data limit. To do this, go to Settings> Mobile networks> Data usage> More data settings. Click on the option 'Monthly data limit' and select an amount in MB or GB. For example, if you have a 5 GB rate and you want to save 1 GB per month, set the limit to 4 GB. Remember to set a start date for the limit to reset when it exceeds 30 days.
3) Change the type of network depending on the circumstances
Mobile phones arrive with the strongest network enabled by default. This means that if our mobile has 5G, and our operator allows it, we can navigate at this speed. However, this type of network consumes more data. In most cases it is 4G, but many times such a high speed is not necessary. For example, to send messages via WhatsApp, 3G networks are sufficient.
To change the type of network we have to go to Settings> Mobile networks> Mobile data> Preferred network type. Select automatic 3G / 2G. Switch to 4G networks when you think necessary. It may take a few seconds for the device to switch networks.
4) Eliminate network access to certain applications
Some applications may be using mobile data network in the background. Many of those apps may not be used when you're away from home, however they can use up mobile data. The most advisable thing is to eliminate the access to the network. At least until you can use them.
To disable network access for some applications, go to Settings> Mobile networks> Data usage> Network access. Disable the mobile data option in the applications you want. If you want to enter an app while you are using mobile data, remember to re-enable the option.
5) Turn off your mobile so you don't run out of data
This trick is useful, especially, at night. If we have the data activated and the internet connection goes away , the terminal will use the mobile data so that we can continue to receive notifications, processes etc. are updated. The most advisable thing is to turn off the mobile at night, and thus in the morning we will receive all the notifications that have reached us. You do not need to do it manually: you can program the on and off. In this way, your Huawei will turn off at a specific time and will turn on when you get up.
To schedule the on and off go to Settings> Accessibility features> Scheduled power on and off. Next, activate the option and choose a switch-off time and a switch-on time. You can also choose when this option is repeated.
6) Activate data saving in applications
Some apps, like Instagram, have a data saving option. This feature is usually activated in the system settings, and allows us to save some MB when we are in the app. For example, on Instagram, the data saving option disables automatic video playback.
Another app where we should apply the data saving settings is in WhatsApp, activating the option that prevents images from being downloaded automatically. This is done in WhatsApp settings> Data and storage> Download with mobile data. Now uncheck the Photos box. In that same option you can also reduce the use of data in calls.
7) Do not install any app to improve performance or save data, it is not necessary
No, it is not necessary to download a performance optimization app and save data on our mobile. Huawei has an app that is used for this: it is called 'Optimizer'. To save data, just tap on 'Data usage' and activate the mode that says 'Smart data saving'. This will prevent some apps from updating in the background, so it won't update automatically and you won't receive notifications until you enter the app.
8) Turn off mobile data when using WiFi
It may seem like a simple trick, but surely you do not disable the data when you are using the WiFi network, and it is recommended to do so . In this way you will prevent the terminal from connecting to the data network when the WiFi is not working properly. Normally the terminal warns us, but the message that appears is very small and we probably do not realize it. To deactivate the data, simply display the notification panel and click on the mobile data icon.
9) Set a data limit in the WiFi zone
If you are sharing the internet with a friend or your other device using your Huawei mobile, I advise you to set a data limit in the WiFi zone. Huawei terminals allow this option so that we do not run out of data. When the set limit is exceeded, the WiFi zone will be disabled.
To set a limit, go to Settings> Mobile networks> Personal hotspot> More> Data limit. Set the limit they show or put a custom one.
