EMUI, the customization layer for Huawei and Honor phones, stands out for having dozens of additional functions, functions that we cannot find in native versions of Android. Good proof of this is the camera application that is integrated into the system, with dozens of options that allow us to improve the results of the photographs. This time we have compiled some of these options to take full advantage of the EMUI 10 camera application.
Most of the options that we will see below are compatible with practically all Huawei and Honor phones as long as they have the EMUI version 10.0 or later. Huawei P20 Lite , P30 Lite , Mate 10 Lite, Mate 20, Y5, Y6, Y9, P40 Lite, Honor 10 Lite, 20 Lite, View 20, 8X, 9X…

The trick to take better photos in Portrait mode
The best way to capture bokeh photos is to use Aperture mode (Extended aperture on some phones) instead of Portrait mode. Our tests in various analyzes have shown us that the results are much better, both in the blurring of the background and in the recognition of figures and bodies.
Also, this mode allows us to blur objects and animals, unlike the original Portrait mode. To this must be added the possibility to modify the level of blur afterwards through the camera options.
Don't use Night mode to capture stars in the open sky
Although it may seem counterproductive, the truth is that Night mode is not the best option if we want to capture stars at night. In this case, it is best to always use the Star trail mode that we can find in the More option, in Painting with light.
This mode will capture with the shutter open for several seconds. Precisely for this reason it is recommended to have a tripod or to use a flat surface to take the photograph in question.
Make camera videos take up less
Thanks to the H.265 encoding algorithm we can reduce the final size of the video files recorded with the Huawei camera application. The downside to using this format is that it is not compatible with some third-party programs and applications, at least for the moment.
To make use of this algorithm we will go to Video mode and then to the gear wheel at the top. Next we will click on resolution and finally on H.265 format with greater efficiency. The videos will automatically be recorded in the indicated format from now on.
Open the camera app in seconds
Opening the camera application manually can take us some time, time that is essential if we want to take the best snapshot. Thanks to the Quick snapshot option we can start the application in just a couple of seconds by pressing twice on the Volume button -. The application will automatically take a photo without having to indicate it manually. Even if the phone is locked.
To activate this curious function we will go to the Photo mode of the application and then to the Options gear wheel. In the Quick snapshot option we will press the homonymous option.
Take pictures with your voice
Taking photos from a distance if we don't have a selfie stick with a built-in button can be, to say the least, tedious. With the Voice Control function of the EMUI camera application we can activate the photo capture by shouting “Cheese” or any other word that exceeds a predefined decibel level.
We can find the option in the same Options section by means of the gear with the name 'Audio control'. Within this section we can select different options to activate the control by means of the voice.
Or through a smile
If we choose not to shout words and phrases in English in the middle of the street, we can resort to another EMU function that allows us to capture photos with a smile. Just above the Audio Control option we can find the aforementioned function with the name of 'Capture smiles'. All you have to do is smile at the camera and the shutter is activated automatically. And yes, it is compatible with both selfies and the rear camera as long as the system detects our face.
Change the focus of images afterwards
This option will only be offered to us if we have taken the photograph in Aperture or Extended Aperture mode. The process is as simple as going to the image in question in the EMUI Gallery application and clicking on the shutter icon that will be shown at the top of the interface.
Now the assistant will allow us to select any part of the image to focus on later.
Stay focused on bodies and objects in videos
Through the Object Tracking function, the EMUI camera application allows us to keep moving bodies or objects in focus at all times. It can be activated through the Options cogwheel in Video mode using the option of the same name.
After activating the option in question we will have to select the object or body to focus on during the recording so that the shutter maintains the focus on it.
Activate the RAW format if you want to edit the images later
All those Huawei and Honor mobiles compatible with Google's camera2 API are compatible with capturing images in RAW format. As you probably already know, this format lacks any compression, which facilitates subsequent editing through programs such as Photoshop or Lightroom.
To activate the aforementioned function we will go to the Settings of the camera application. Previously we will have to move to Pro or Professional mode through the application dial. In the RAW Format section we will enable the option with the same name. From now on, the images will be captured with this format and we can edit them through professional applications on our mobile.
