Google Chrome for Android and iOS has practically the same advantages as its namesake version for Windows, Linux and Mac. Unfortunately, some of the application's functions remain hidden from inexperienced eyes. To activate these hidden settings we will have to use the flags command, a command that allows us to activate Google Chrome's experimental options. This time we have compiled several of the most interesting hidden browser settings to activate in Chrome for mobile.
Move the Chrome toolbar down
The Google Chrome toolbar can be a nuisance if we have a large phone. This is because the bar is at the top of the application interface. The good news is that we can move it to the bottom of Chrome.
Inside the browser we will write the following command:
- chrome: // flags
Then, we will write 'Chrome Duet' in the search engine that will be shown below. Finally we will select the option of Enable, Enabled Home-Search-Tab Switcher Variation or Enabled NewTab-Search-Share Variation to activate the mentioned bar at the bottom of Google Chrome. Now we will only have to restart the application for the changes to be applied correctly.
Find out if your password has been leaked on any website
The latest update of Google Chrome for desktop systems introduced an interesting feature that allows us to know if the passwords of our user accounts have been filtered on third-party pages. This feature is not yet available in the mobile version of Chrome. Not at least officially.
To activate the aforementioned function we will refer again to the Chrome flags and write the command 'Password Leak Detection'. In the drop-down menu we will select the Enabled option. From now on, the browser will show us a message in all web forms that require a password in case it has been filtered by third parties.
Speed up the loading of Google Chrome pages with this trick
Is Google Chrome slow on your mobile? The application has an option that allows us to directly select the Reading Mode of the web pages to reduce the cost of data loading content.
Again we will have to refer to the Chrome flags to use this function. In the internal search engine we will write 'Reader Mode Triggering' and we will mark the option of Always in the drop-down menu. We can also activate the With articles structured markup or Non-mobile-friendly articles options if we want to activate the Reading Mode in all those articles compatible with this mode or with the pages that are not adapted to mobile web design.
Change the way you view Chrome tabs
Google's browser interface when displaying open tabs on Android and iOS can be a bit clunky due to the limited number of tabs it shows. Thanks to a simple Chrome command we can change the interface to our liking.
In the flags tab we will write the command 'Tab Grid Layout'. Within the drop-down menu we will be shown different options. From tuexperto.com we recommend activating the Enabled Thumbnail aspect ratio - 3: 4 option to see up to 6 tabs per space. If the screen size of our mobile is equal to or less than 6 inches, we can choose a 1: 2 or 2: 2 ratio.
Store Google Chrome tabs in groups
Did you know that you can create groups of Google Chrome tabs on your mobile? So is. Thanks to this function we can group several tabs in a folder and assign it a name. As if it were a WhatsApp or Telegram group.
To activate this functionality we will have to write the command 'Tab Groups' in the Chrome flags search box. Then, we will select the Enable option. Finally we will restart the browser so that the changes are applied correctly.
Activate Google search through Google Lens
Google Lens is the Google application designed to analyze real life elements through the mobile camera to find out more detailed information about a product or article in general. The latest Chrome updates have precisely integrated this feature into the browser, although we will have to activate it manually through the Google flags.
In this case we will have to refer to the setting 'Google Lens powered image search in the context menu' and activate the Enable option. After restarting the application, Chrome will show us a new option in the Settings that will allow us to search for any product with the mobile camera.
Share the Chrome clipboard between different devices
Sharing the text that we copy and paste on different devices is something that until now required third-party applications. If we use Google Chrome on all our computers (PC, tablet, mobile…) we can share the clipboard without having to resort to external software. Of course, for this feature to work properly, we will have to activate it on all devices where we have previously installed the browser. In any case, the process is as simple as going to the Chrome flags and looking for the following commands:
- Enable receiver device to handle the shared clipboard feature
- Enable shared clipboard feature signals to be handled
Both options should be marked as Enabled. Automatically the text of our clipboard will be replicated in all the browsers in which we have accessed with our Google account.
Improve download speed in Google Chrome
The concept of parallel download refers to a download system that divides heavy files into elements of less weight to speed up the download process. Thanks to this system we can accelerate downloads in Google Chrome. How? Through the 'Parallel Downloading' command that we can find in the browser flags. Automatically the speed of the downloads will increase significantly.
