Is your iPhone battery short? Apple hasn't always cared about adding a big battery to its devices, which is why many users are forced to charge their iPhone a couple of times a day. If you arrive right at the end of the day and want to extend the battery a little more, you can make use of little tricks that come with iOS 13.
The steps that I am going to show below are compatible with those devices that have iOS 13, such as iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS and Xs Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Apply dark mode
Dark mode has been shown to save battery life. Especially in those devices that have an OLED panel, such as the iPhone X, Xs and 11 Pro (including the Max models). Applying the dark mode makes the black pixels dull pixels, and therefore does not consume battery. Also, many of the apps already support dark mode, and white colors become black (pixels off on OLED panels).
Applying the dark mode is very simple. We will only have to slide from the upper area and open the control center. Then press and hold on the brightness control and click where it says 'Dark mode'. You will see how the colors change to blacker tones.
Disable lift-to-enable option
This feature is enabled by default on iPhone. Makes the screen wake up every time we pick up the iPhone. If we carry the mobile in our pocket or in our hand while we walk, it is very likely that it will activate automatically and drain the battery. It is best to disable this option. To do this, we go to Settings> screen> Lift to activate. Disable this option.
Attentive to the use of autonomy
In the system settings we find an option that shows the use of the battery on a day-to-day basis and allows us to know which application is spending more autonomy . If you want to know which app uses the most battery, go to Settings> Battery and scroll down to the option that says 'Battery use by apps'. If you want to save, try to reduce the use of the applications that appear first in the list. Or, access them in dark mode to try to save some more autonomy
Activate low power mode
A classic: activate the low power mode if you want to save battery. This causes unnecessary background processes to close, disables animations, and disables mobile data when the terminal is locked (this will prevent us from receiving notifications when the screen is off.9 To activate the low-power mode, follow the steps below.
- Go to Settings.
- Go to the Battery section.
- Activate the option called Low Power Mode.
Turn off automatic brightness
Disabling the automatic brightness can save some autonomy, but it can also have an impact depending on the use. For example, if you deactivate the option and always have the maximum brightness, you will spend more autonomy. But if, on the contrary, you maintain a minimum brightness in most cases, you will achieve greater savings than with the activated mode. Simply because what this mode does is adjust the brightness based on the light that the front sensor detects. Therefore, if we are in places with a lot of light, it will increase the brightness considerably and in low light situations it will decrease it so that we can see better.
How do I turn off the automatic brightness? You have to go to Settings> Accessibility> Screen and text size> Automatic brightness. Disable this option.
Turn off notifications for apps you don't use
Yes, receiving a notification from an app also has an autonomy expense, especially since it makes use of animations and mobile data. Personally, I would not deactivate the notifications of the applications that we use the most, but of those that we do not usually enter very often. To turn off notifications for one or more apps, follow these steps.
- Enter Settings
- Go to the Notifications section
- In the Notification style option, select the app that you don't want to send you alerts
- Turn off the option that says Allow notifications.
Beware of background updates
Even Apple mentions on the iPhone itself that disabling background updates saves some autonomy. By default, most all the applications that we have on the phone activate the updates in the background. In this way, the app takes less time to open and allows us to receive news even when we are not using it. This function may not interest us to deactivate in the applications that we use the most, but if you have apps to enter from time to time, it is best to deactivate them.
To disable background update for an app, go to Settings> General> Background update. Here you have two options. On the one hand, deactivate this function by default or use it only when you are connected to a Wifi network. On the other hand, deactivate the function in the applications that you do not want.
