There is no magic button or formula to save battery power from one day to the next. In fact, if the battery life of our smartphone has decreased over time, it is most likely due to the degradation of the cells. But this does not mean that we cannot apply a series of methods to save battery and improve the autonomy of our devices. On this occasion we have made a compilation of several tricks to save battery in a Huawei mobile with EMUI that you must try yes or yes.
The steps that we will describe below are compatible with most Huawei and Honor phones. Huawei P20 Lite , P30 Lite , P30 Pro New Edition, Mate 10 Lite, Mate 20, Y5, Y6, Y9, P40 Lite, P40 Lite 5G, Honor 10 Lite, 20 Lite, 30, View 20, 8X, 9X… Also with most versions of EMUI. EMUI 9, EMUI 10, EMUI 10.1, EMUI 11 and so on
Limit the automatic start of certain applications
Most mobile phones currently have dozens of applications that have little or nothing to do with the use we give the device. To this we must add that EMUI has several standard applications that cannot be uninstalled. A good way to save battery is based on controlling the automatic start of all these applications.
To control this parameter we will have to access the Battery section within the Android settings. In this section we will click on Start applications. Now we will have a list with all the installed applications, as we can see in the image below.
To limit the automatic start of each of the applications we will have to click on the relevant switch. The ideal is to limit all those applications that we are not going to use or that we use very little on a daily basis. Facebook, Gmail, Booking, Mail, Weather, Google Photos…
And running applications in the background
From the same configuration menu that we just mentioned, we can control the execution of the applications in the background. As a general rule, Android keeps some processes in the background when we exit the applications to access them more quickly if we decide to open them again. The key in this case is to limit the execution in the background of all those applications that we use the least on the mobile.
We can do it by following the same process that we just detailed in the previous trick.
Optimize battery usage through EMUI settings
Huawei's customization layer has a very useful function that helps us optimize battery use. We can access this function through the Battery section in the system settings.
What this function does is disable the automatic syncing of certain applications, turn off the Internet when the device is in sleep mode, and reduce the screen timeout to a minimum. It also turns off mobile data automatically and adjusts the screen brightness in Automatic mode. In short, a Swiss army knife.
Change screen resolution (and always use dark mode)
Mobile screens have more and more resolution, a resolution that sometimes becomes unnecessary. To change this parameter we will have to go to the Screen section in the EMUI settings. Then, we will click on Screen resolution and finally on the smallest value, which is usually HD + in case the screen is Full HD +.
Another method that serves to save battery is to activate the dark mode on OLED and AMOLED screens. According to some tests, the battery saving can be up to 30% compared to the traditional screen mode with light colors.
Pixel OFF Battery Saver, the application to save battery on OLED screens
Saving battery in our Huawei mobile does not always depend on the EMUI options. Pixel OFF Battery Saver comes as a curious application that serves to improve the energy consumption of OLED and AMOLED screens.
What this application does is superimpose a mesh with different patterns to turn off some pixels on the screen. From the application itself we can configure the size and pattern of the mesh and the dimensions of the black pixels: the larger the size and dimensions, the lower the energy consumption. Of course, the display of the panel will be reduced, since for practical purposes, the number of pixels that are displayed is reduced.
Battery saving mode can be your friend (although you already know that)
You can't miss man's best friend on your mobile phone. Huawei's Energy Saving mode has different levels that allow us to adjust the restrictions that the system applies to reduce energy consumption. Accessing this is as simple as turning once more to the Battery section in the EMUI settings.
If we want to make normal use of the device during the day, it is advisable to activate the Power saving mode option. We can also opt for the Ultra energy saving mode option, although it is more limiting than the first. In fact, we can only use a selection of applications chosen by ourselves.
Turn off automatic updates from Google Play Store
Automatic updates from Google Play Store can cause high consumption on our phone, as it is constantly running in the background. To deactivate them, we will have to go to the Google store, specifically to the application settings, which we can access by sliding the side menu to the left.
Once inside, we will click on Update applications automatically and finally on Do not update applications automatically.
