After a long wait, many of Xiaomi phones have begun to receive the update to MIUI 12, the latest version of the customization layer that the manufacturer uses in its devices. This is a very important update, as it comes with multiple new features, both in terms of design and functionality.
Among the novelties we find a dark mode for all applications, a new control center, new Focus Mode and much more. And so that you can master all these news, here are 7 tricks for you to become true experts in the Xiaomi MIUI 12 customization layer.
Activate new Control Center
One of the most important new features of MIUI 12 is the new and customizable Control Center. However, this is not activated by default when we update the mobile.
To activate it we must go to Settings, look at the top for the words "Control Center" and once located, mark the option " Use the new Control Center ".
Once activated, we can edit practically all the shortcuts that appear in the new control center. The only ones that we will not be able to modify are those that appear in a larger size.
Activate Dark Mode in applications
It is true that the previous versions of the Xiaomi customization layer already had the dark mode, but with MIUI 12 we can also use it in most third-party applications that we have installed.
To activate it we will go to Settings and then we will enter the Screen section. Once inside, click on the Dark mode option, from where we can activate this mode or program it to activate automatically.
In the lower area we will see a section called Advanced, from which we can access the option " Individual applications ". It will be here where we can tell the system which applications should use dark mode.
Show connection speed
Another of the tricks that we can find in MIUI 12 is that it shows us the connection speed that we have at all times. It will appear in the upper left, as if it were any other notification.
To activate it we will have to enter Settings and look for the Screen section. We look for the option "Control Center and Notification Bar" and activate the option " Show connection speed ".
Disable ads pre-installed apps
Some of the applications that come pre-installed with Xiaomi phones include annoying advertising. Luckily, MIUI 12 allows us to disable it. However, as is logical, this option is somewhat hidden.
To do this we go to Settings and we go to the Applications section. In the option of "Manage applications" we have to go to the three points that we have in the upper right part and click on " Show all applications ".
In this way we can access the configuration of all the applications that are installed on the mobile, including those installed by default MIUI. Among all those that appear we must look for the application called "msa".
We enter the settings of this application, go to notifications and uncheck the option "Show notifications". This will prevent the annoying Xiaomi advertising from coming back to us on the mobile.
New privacy settings
MIUI 12 incorporates a function that will allow us to better discuss our privacy when sharing a photo. Specifically, the new version offers us the possibility of eliminating the metadata and the location of the photograph before sharing it with someone.
To do this we will have to click on the " privacy protection " option that appears at the top of the photo sharing screen.
Lock apps with your fingerprint
Another of the most interesting options that we can find in MIUI is to block access to certain apps by means of a fingerprint or an unlock pattern. It is quite useful if we want a certain application to be used only by ourselves.
To protect a specific application with the fingerprint we will go to Settings and enter the Applications section. Once here we enter "Application Lock" and click on Activate. We can lock up to 10 applications with a fingerprint.
Split screen apps and floating windows
We finish our selection of cheats for MIUI 12 with a very interesting double function. On the one hand we have the possibility of using two applications at the same time dividing the screen into two configurable parts in size.
To do this we just have to go to the multitasking screen and hold down one of the two apps that you want to use in split screen. A series of icons will appear on the right side that provide us with various options. We must choose the icon that has two rectangles one on top of the other.
The screen will be divided, showing at the top the first application that we have chosen. Now we just need to choose the other application that we want to open and voila, we can see the two applications at the same time.
We can slide the separator to change the size of each of the applications. And when we want to deactivate the split screen we will only have to slide the separator up or down completely.
The second option that MIUI 12 offers us is to use floating windows. That is, we will always have the application that we want in the foreground, but being able to see part of the second application. This is quite useful if we want to consult some data without having to close the main application that we are using.
To do this the process is very similar to the split screen. The only change is that in the series of icons that appear when you press and hold on the application, we will have to choose just the one below the divided screen.
This option also allows us to change the size of the application that we have in window mode and its position.
