Create a personalized feed with your favorite topics
The Google application has a plus that you will not find in the web version. It has a function that allows you to create a personalized feed of the topics (music, movies, sports, etc.) that interest you to see the latest news without taking any extra action.
To take advantage of this dynamic, you only need to activate Discover and apply some settings. Once you activate it, you can follow new topics, indicate whether or not you want to see news from certain sources, change the frequency of updates, among other options. You can change the feed that Discover offers as many times as you want.
One detail to keep in mind: for this function to give you suggestions that may interest you, you need to activate the option "Activity on the web and in Applications".
Childproof searches
If there are children in the house who tend to take your mobile, you can apply a small adjustment in the Google settings so that it does not show inappropriate content in the results.
Keep in mind that it does not act as a parental control, it is only a filter that can help you in an oversight so that children do not see images or videos that do not correspond to their age. To activate it you have to go to Settings >> General >> Safe Search.
This option will block any inappropriate website or multimedia content from search results.
Use these options to save data
You may think that the Google app only consumes data when you perform a search, but it is not entirely true. It may be consuming more data than you think if you have the Discover feature enabled.
As we mentioned before, this function allows you to have a personalized feed with notifications of the topics that interest you. But for this dynamic to work it has to be updated regularly, and therefore consumes data.
So you have two options to prevent this from happening: disable Discover or lower the frequency of updates. To do this, go to Settings (from the Google app) >> General and look for the two options you see in the image:
In the first option you deactivate Discover and with the second option you activate the "Data saving" reducing the frequency of its updates.
Another setting you can make to save data when using Google is to configure how the previews of the videos will be displayed. When you search for a video on Google, you will see that it plays automatically for a few seconds in the search results to get an idea if it is the content that interests you. An option that you can disable.
To do this, go back to Settings >> General and look for the option “Video previews”. You can configure that they are only available when you are connected to WiFi or never.
Receive notifications of your pending searches
Surely it has happened to you that you are looking for something in Google and you stay offline. Google launches its famous poster warning that you do not have internet and it seems the end of the matter.
However, you can configure that Google notify you, when the connection returns, that you have a pending search that you can resume. This will save you from having to constantly update to check if the internet is already working. It is a simple and practical trick.
To activate it go to Settings >> General and scroll down to “Repeat searches done offline”.
Edit and share screenshots from Google
Surely you already have your favorite method to take a screenshot from your mobile. But if you want to save a few steps, we show you a little trick to share a screenshot from the Google application.
You only need to activate the option "Edit and share screenshots" in the Settings section of the app, and you will no longer have to leave the search results or the web page that you have searched from Google to carry out this process.
As you can see in the images, it gives you options to share the capture through the apps you have installed on your mobile and search in Lens. Or you can select Edit to crop the image and use some of the colors to draw or mark something in the capture. And all this without leaving the Google app.
Create the shopping list from Google
From the "Notifications" tab of the Google app you can access some of the Assistant's functions. And in addition, you will find some card recommendations to view important information such as the weather, calendar events, etc. And among them, you have the option of making a shopping list.
Applications that allow us to create lists are not lacking, but if you do not have any app installed or want to make a quick list you can try this option. Just open the Google app, scroll to the Notifications tab and look for the “Shopping List” card.
It will direct you to a new page to add items from a list or you can type them manually. You can create as many lists as you want, and these will always be available in the Google app, so you can go to the supermarket or shopping with the application open, viewing the list and crossing out what you are buying.
A bonus that this option offers is that you can share the list with your contacts.
Organize recipes, images and pages you like into collections
If you are looking for recipes on Google, ideas for making crafts or new products to go shopping, you will be interested in using this option. Google allows you to save and organize everything you find in search results in collections.
You can use some of Google's suggestions or create new collections. To add elements you just have to look for that marker icon that you will find in the browser bar on websites or images.
Following this dynamic, you can create collections for Recipes, Products you want to buy, tutorials, etc. And all this content is managed from the Collections tab of the Google app.
And a plus that adds this dynamic is that you can share your Collections with your friends and contacts. Or you can just keep them private.
