MIUI is the name of the customization layer that we can find in almost all Xiaomi brand terminals, with permission from the range that includes the recent Xiaomi Mi A3 with Pure Android. We currently have version 10 available and its successor, MIUI 11 is coming down in the coming months. Whether you already have a mobile from the brand in your hands or not, surely this will interest you because we are going to delve into the guts of this layer, proposing tricks and functionalities that, at first glance, may remain hidden for a large number of users. If you already have Xiaomi because you can put them into practice and if not because it will help you discover a new way to interact with an Android mobile.
In total we have gathered seven tricks or hidden functions for you to give an extra use to the Xiaomi terminal, whether you have been with it for a while or if you are launching it right now. Don't forget to bookmark this article for easy access to the tricks, in case you don't remember how to do them.
Direct access to applications
A very curious trick to access the application administration screen, in which we can perform functions such as:
- Update pre-installed MIUI apps
- Uninstall applications that we have on our phone
- Find applications in Xiaomi's own store
- Access the permissions screen where we can prevent certain apps from opening by themselves when starting the mobile and know the permissions that we have granted to the pages.
Well, the long way to get to this screen is through mobile settings-Manage applications but we have a faster way to get to it. Activate multitasking, either through the gesture or the button and then press and hold the circle with the 'X' inside. The application management screen will open automatically.
Activate developer options
Thanks to this hidden trick we will be able to touch some parameters of our mobile to get new functionalities or change some aspects of it, such as, for example, the speed of the animations or choose the best audio codec for our headphones. The developer options are not activated by default and we can achieve it in the following way.
Open your phone's settings menu and go to the 'About phone' section. On this screen, look for your ' MIUI Version ' and click on it seven times until a notice appears that the options are already enabled. Now, we go to the section 'Additional settings' within 'Settings' and we will see the new section already available.
Fingerprint shortcuts
We have talked to you before about a shortcut by holding down the delete button for multitasking. Now we offer you a new gesture to access three very different functions such as:
- QR scanner
- Web navigator
- Add event to calendar
To access these three functionalities with a single finger gesture we are going to do the following: the next time you unlock your Xiaomi mobile using your fingerprint, do not release your finger even when it has been unlocked, hold it for a few more seconds. You will see how, in a moment, a new blurred color screen will appear with three buttons, each one corresponding to the new function. You just have to drag your finger towards one of them to open it. The bad thing is that the browser that appears will always be the MIUI one and it is impossible to change it.
Share the WiFi key in a very simple way
This hidden function will only work between two Xiaomi phones as long as they both have the MIUI layer installed, it does not work with pure Android, the layer of the Mi A1, Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite and Mi A3. Thanks to it, we will be able to connect to the WiFi at our friend's house without having to enter cumbersome keys. To make this trick so simple we just need to do the following:
We open the mobile settings and enter 'WiFi' in the 'WiFi and Networks' section. Next, we click on the network in which we are connected and a pop-up window with a QR code will appear. We scan the QR code with the mobile we want to connect to the WiFi and it will do so automatically without having to fill in the password field. As simple as that!
Quickly enter the application settings
A new trick with which to stop movements in MIUI. If you want to enter the specific settings of an application, you can choose to choose the long way, that is, enter settings, then go to the notifications section, search for the chosen application… Or the short one as follows.
We access multitasking, either through gestures, if you have the full screen option activated, or by pressing the specific button for it. Once we have the windows corresponding to the applications we have open, we hold down the one of the application we want to enter. In this case we are going to enter WhatsApp. By holding down its box, three shortcuts will appear: a padlock so that that application never closes in multitasking, a shortcut to multitasking and a nut icon with which we can access the interior of the application to see the permissions that we have given it and other cool settings.
Save battery with this curious code
A trick that will save your battery thanks to the fact that you can select the network you want to connect to, either 3G or 4G. This trick is indicated for people who live in places of unstable coverage: when the mobile is looking for networks to connect continuously, the battery consumption will be very large. Open the phone app and type * # * # 4636 # * # *. Next, a new screen will open and we will click on 'Information about phone1' or 2, wherever we have the SIM card. Then, in 'Set preferred network type' we are going to select 'LTE / WCDMA'.
Information about charging your Xiaomi
The next time you are charging the mobile, press and hold the icon that appears on the lock screen. You'll see what a surprise!
