The possibilities of today's smartphones are endless. If until a few years ago we had to resort to specific devices to perform certain functions, today it is possible to do so using only a simple mobile phone. Camera, multimedia player, alarm clock or MP3 player are some of the possible uses that we can give to a conventional telephone.
But beyond these, we can carry out a series of advanced functions that until recently was only possible with devices that are often expensive and complex to master. This time we have made a compilation of five possible uses to give a mobile today.
Surveillance Camera
Why spend money on a video surveillance camera if we can use our mobile to control our home. Thanks to a series of specialized applications and the camera of our device, we can make use of it as if it were an IP camera and control it remotely.
There are many applications to turn our terminal into a spy camera, but the one that has worked best for us is without a doubt Alfred - WiFi surveillance camera. Once we have installed it in our terminal, we can access the address provided by the app through a browser and we can view everything that our camera records.
Web Cam or Webcam
Has the web cam on our computer been damaged? We can use the camera of our smartphone to replace the webcam of the computer. In this article we show you how to do it through the DroidCam application for Android.
In addition to allowing us to record the image of the camera, we can also capture the audio for video conferences if we wish. The best of all is that we can do it from the WiFi network itself to avoid connecting cables to the computer.
WIFI repeater
We go from the cameras and we go to the modem of our smartphone, specifically to the WiFi antenna. Thanks to the possibilities offered by Android as standard, we can use our mobile as a WiFi repeater to extend the range of the original router and connect through other devices.
The only drawback is that to do so we will have to resort to paid applications (there are free applications with browsing limits), however, it will always be a much cheaper option than a regular WiFi repeater. In this article we show you how to achieve it through two simple applications that do not require root.
Extreme battery
Perhaps one of the most unknown uses by users. If we have a mobile with sufficient battery capacity, we can use it as a common external battery as long as it is higher in mAh than the device that we are going to charge.
To do this, all we will need is a USB OTG adapter and a common charging cable whose male output matches the female input of the adapter in question. Once we have connected it, the second mobile will load the main one.
Linux computer
When we say that smartphones are miniature computers, it is not for nothing, especially with the hardware that most assemble today. Thanks to applications such as Debian NoRoot, we can install a Linux-based computer operating system in an integrated way and without any type of limit.
Although it is true that its performance is not comparable to that of a conventional PC, it is sufficient to program, control MySQL databases through the terminal or install packages easily. Best of all, if we combine the application with a USB OTG cable, we can use mice, keyboards and monitors as if it were a computer.
