Browsers are as essential on a mobile phone as the phone app can be. Well, at this point, even more, because surely, after the day, we make many more Internet inquiries than phone calls. And it is that the Internet browser is essential for us to access web pages. One of the most used in the Android operating system is, how could it be otherwise, Google Chrome. Undoubtedly, this is due to the fact that, being a browser developed by Google, it is pre-installed in the vast majority of Android terminals that are put on sale.
The main use we give to browsers is to search for information on the Internet but, to squeeze it further, we must dive into its settings and hidden configurations. We are going to make the effort for you, taking the time to bring out those settings that can get the best out of Google Chrome. For you, 5 Google Chrome tricks to get the most out of it.
Ask Google Chrome to suggest similar pages
Imagine you are reading a very interesting article that you would like to have other points of view about or have the possibility, simply, of being able to see similar topics with the push of a button. Well, this little trick makes it possible and we can achieve it just by modifying a browser setting. Let's see how it's done.
First, open the browser and in the search bar you have to put the following, without quotes: ' chrome: // flags '. A lot of information and settings will appear on the next screen, in English. Do not fear because we are going to help you step by step. In the search box that appears we are going to put, without quotes, 'Contextual Suggestions Button'. What we will have to do is 'activate' this setting because it will be disabled by default. Then, we restart the browser and that's it. Now, as long as it is available, a small button will appear next to the navigation bar, indicating that you can have content suggestions.
Do you want to save data?
One of the applications that consume the most data, how could it be otherwise, is Google Chrome. It does not reach the levels of Instagram and its Stories (sometimes we forget that we are continuously consuming videos in this application) but this application can be a good drain on our data. Fortunately, we have a setting in the application itself that will allow us to save data. Thanks to this setting, Google's servers will simplify the web page so that less data is downloaded. The page will also be seen as usual.
To do this, we open the browser and go to the settings menu that we can locate in the upper right part of the screen, made up of three horizontal points. In the side window that appears, we select 'Settings' and then activate the ' Data saving ' switch. From this moment, in the menu window, we can see the amount of data that we are saving.
Put web pages on the desktop as if they were apps
Do you want to stop using Facebook as an application because it uses up too much battery? Do you go to the website of your football team a lot and would you like to have a direct access right on your desktop? Well this is the easiest way to do it. One of the most popular and widely accepted Google Chrome tricks. Let's do the following.
We open Google Chrome and enter the web page we want, for example, Facebook. In the three-point menu that we see in the upper right part of the screen we enter and now we are going to click on 'Add to home screen'. Later, we can change the name of the shortcut icon and that's it. Now, every time we want to see our Facebook, we just have to enter that shortcut. Of course, keep in mind that, every time we enter, a new tab will open.
Put the Google Chrome navigation bar down
Is your mobile one of those devices that has a screen of six inches or more? Would you like to have the settings and the search bar at the bottom of the phone so you don't have to juggle your hand to search for something? Well, there is a fitting modification that can provide you with this practical design change. To do this, we are going to enter, again, in the hidden settings section of Google Chrome, writing 'Chrome: // flags'. In the search box we are now going to write ' Chrome Duet '. We activate this section and restart the browser, this is important, twice.
When we open it for the third time we will see a small magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen, as well as the three-point settings menu, the number of open tabs and the share button.
How to block invasive or deceptive ads
With this blocker we are not going to remove all the ads from the pages, but at least those that seem to be a fraud, that are invasive for navigation and that can lead to mistakes. To do this, we are going to go back to the three-point menu that you have at the top (or bottom, if you have made the change from the previous point) and we go to 'Settings'. Once on this screen, we look for the 'Advanced settings' section and, within this, ' Website settings '. In this new screen we will be able to block notifications from web pages to allow all third-party cookies by default and, of course, block invasive ads. You have to make sure that the switch is deactivated, as it appears in the following screenshot.
