Android 8.0 Oreo has been available for a few months. The new version of the operating system includes very interesting news, as well as new functions. Unfortunately, it has been seen in the latest distribution reports published by Google that Android Oreo has only reached 0.3 percent of users. Even so, the company with the green doll assured that many manufacturers would update their devices by the end of the year, although many manufacturers may take a little longer. Is it worth waiting for Android 8? 0 Oreo? Of course, and here are five features worth waiting for.
Picture in Picture
We could not start talking about Picture in Picture, the new feature that comes with Android Oreo natively. This option allows us to view the content of a video from a small floating screen. Thus, we can continue browsing the device, enter applications, etc. Always with a floating screen with the video. It is without a doubt one of the best options. Although many services that should still use this function do not use it, the truth is that apps such as Chrome, Netflix, Google Maps or even WhatsApp already have this feature.
Better performance and battery management
Believe it or not, the operating system has a great responsibility in terms of system fluidity and battery. Google has wanted to improve this in 8.0 Oreo, and this version includes better battery optimization and greater fluidity. On the other hand, it is thanks to a limitation in the background application processes. In other words, the apps that are working in the background are limited to an amount of memory so that they cannot exceed it, and, therefore, it does not limit performance or autonomy. In addition, Android Oreo improves battery settings with better usage information in applications and other settings. A storage setting is also added that allows us to free up space in a faster way.
Faster updates
Yes, you probably have to wait for your device to update to Android 8.0 Oreo. But later, the updates will go much faster. Google has wanted to implement a feature called Project Treble. With this, Google wants to streamline system updates and avoid what always happens in Android updates. For you to update a device, component manufacturers have to update their drivers, as well as the manufacturer its customization layer. Project Treble will make the operating system compatible without the need for a driver update.
Notifications improvements
One of the most outstanding improvements on an aesthetic level is seen in the Android 8.0 Oreo notifications. Notifications are sorted by hierarchy. First, the active notifications will appear. For example, an incoming call, music, an alarm etc. Second, you will find the notifications between contact to contact. For example, messages, email etc. It is followed by general notifications, such as an event notice, notification of highlights, etc.
Finally, and in a much smaller space, less prominent notifications, such as daily weather, background apps, etc. In addition, a button is added to postpone a notification, and that it sounds later. Also notifications with multimedia content change color depending on, for example, the color of the album we are listening to. Finally, we must mention the notification balloons on the icons. Every time an app shows a notification, a small blue dot will appear on the icon.
New emojis
Finally, we must mention that Google, finally, changes the design of its emojis. Until Android 7.0 Nougat, Android emojis had very different shapes. Now, they have been given the same rounded and more distinctive design. With more real expressions and of a better quality. Without a doubt, something that is appreciated by users who love icons.
When will my device update?
Google announced at the presentation of Android Oreo that the major manufacturers will launch this new version on some of their devices by the end of the year. At the moment there are many who are complying, even if it is in beta form. Samsung has already released Android 8 for the Galaxy S8. OnePlus is another of the manufacturers. In addition, it will update the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T to Nougat. The OnePlus 3 already have Oreo in beta form.
Sony, for example, already has new devices with Oreo and will update those of this year. Motorola has a great list of devices that will update to Android Oreo. The same happens with BQ and Huawei. This last manufacturer already has a device with Oreo and the update is planned for the Huawei P10, Mate 9 and P9. We will see if finally, the manufacturers comply with their upgrade plans, and soon the users receive these news.
