Table of contents:
One is the latest available version of Samsung's first family of phablets . The other is the first of a new range of large-screen products from Korea. We are talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8. Both are characterized by having a large multi-touch screen. But do they offer the same benefits? Are they accompanied by the same version of Android? Do they both have the S-Pen pointer? These, and other differences are the ones that we are going to explain to you below.
screen
These are two large mobiles, that cannot be doubted. However, the first difference that the customer can best appreciate is the size: the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers a diagonal of 5.5 inches, while the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 reaches 5.8 inches, as its name suggests.. Now, do they offer the same resolution? The answer is no. The last terminal Note family can reproduce images up to 1280 x 720 pixels (HD resolution), while the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 must conform with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (qHD resolution).
To this, we must add that the panel of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 uses SuperAMOLED technology, while the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 will use a TFT type.
Power and memory
Perhaps, on a technical level, the most obvious difference is the declared power of both terminals. Samsung has opted to include different processors in these two models. First, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 hit the market as one of the most powerful alternatives in the industry. And it is that in its technical sheet there is a quad- core processor that operates at a working frequency of 1.6 GHz.
However, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 seems to be a cheaper phablet alternative than its catalog brother: it will offer a dual-core processor with a 1.4 GHz operating frequency. A figure that is not bad at all, but that the most demanding users may notice. Be careful, yes: the two terminals are accompanied by RAM memories of more than one GigaByte. The Galaxy Note 2 offers two gigabytes, while the new phablet of Samsung reach 1.5 GB.
Operating system
Yes, the two Samsung hybrids are based on the Google, Android icons. However, the Korean company has taken advantage of the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 to be able to implement the latest version of Google's mobile operating system in its new family. Hence, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 offers Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
However, for the moment, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has reached the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean version, which it received a few weeks ago in the form of an update. And that, some improvements were added such as having a button to activate or deactivate the multi-window function or some improvements in the camera. Although Samsung is already working to bring the latest version of the operating system and its custom layer to this terminal.
Drums
The autonomy of both teams will depend on the use that each client makes of their terminal. Now, if we look at the data sheet of the two protagonists, it can be seen that there is also a difference in the capacity of the batteries that are added to the sales package. The oldest, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers a 3100 milliamp battery; the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 is content with 2600 milliamps.
Connections
Finally, although both the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 are based on the latest technology on the market, there are also differences in this section, the connections. And, the latest phablet of the Korean lacks an NFC ( Near Field Communication ) connection and the possibility of using its MicroUSB port with an MHL adapter to connect to a larger screen through an HDMI port. Of course, the client can rest assured that it will offer the possibility of sharing multimedia material with DLNA technology or through the WiFi Direct standard.
