This year the Korean brand Samsung has responded, in a very direct way, to all those voices that criticized its mid-range. The arguments that were wielded was the little variety of it, compared to other brands that had, in their catalog, such an extensive medium range that, within it, different classifications in relation to price could be found, in turn, from 100 to 500 euros. This is the case of Xiaomi, for example. And Samsung has wanted this 2019 to be the year of its mid-range, offering as many terminals as pockets and demands of different users. Each user can get the Samsung terminal they want within their Galaxy A range, from the 110 euros of the Samsung Galaxy A10 to the 650 euros of the top of the range, the Samsung Galaxy A80.
Differences between Samsung Galaxy A80 and Samsung Galaxy A70
This time we are going to focus on the two models with the largest packaging in the current mid-range, the Samsung Galaxy A70 and the Samsung Galaxy A80. What are their main differences? Will it be worth the outlay and the difference in price between one and the other? Let's see.
COMPARATIVE SHEET
A novel rotating camera device
This is, without a doubt, the biggest difference that we are going to find, not only between the Samsung Galaxy A70 and the Samsung Galaxy A80 but between the latter and any other mobile that we have ever tried. While some brands opt for the telescopic camera, such as the Xiaomi Mi 9T or the OnePlus 7 Pro, Samsung has pulled out of its sleeve a rotating camera that is, at the same time, a main camera and a selfie camera. When we enter the camera application and rotate the camera, the body of the device expands and the triple camera, which was originally on the back, rotates on itself, to become a triple selfie camera. In the following video you can see, more closely, how this triple rotating camera works.
In this way, with a single triple lens combo, we will have a front and rear camera, thus taking advantage of the benefits of the main camera, which are always better, to take selfies and front videos.
Another important difference between a triple camera combo and another is that in the Samsung Gaaxy A70, in addition to the angular and the wide-angle we have a telephoto lens to take distant images in good quality. However, in the Samsung Galaxy A80 we lose the telephoto lens to make way for a TOF 3D sensor. It is an infrared light sensor that is capable of measuring the depth of a scene through a single shot, which substantially improves portrait mode.
SD storage on the Samsung Galaxy A80?
No, forget it. It is one of the points where the Samsung Galaxy A80 loses to the Samsung Galaxy A70. While, in the latter, with 128 GB of factory storage, we can insert a card of up to 512 GB, thus achieving a full storage of 640 GB. What about the Samsung Galaxy A80? That we will have to 'settle' with the 128 GB that come standard.
More RAM and better GPU
The Samsung Galaxy A80 will manage multitasking more efficiently, having 8 GB of RAM memory instead of the 6 of the A70. In addition, we will have different versions of Adreno (see table). In short, if you want a slightly more powerful mobile, you can choose to buy the Samsung Galaxy A80 but, for normal use purposes, I think you would not notice the difference.
Drums
In this section, if we stick to the battery capacity, the Samsung Galaxy A70 wins by a landslide by integrating a battery of no less than 4,500 mAh, while the A80 has 'only' 3,700 mAh, a not inconsiderable figure but that it will not reach the autonomy of that one.
The price
A defining section for many who hesitate between buying one terminal or another. Right now, the Samsung Galaxy A70 can be found for around 336 euros. However, the Samsung Galaxy A8 exceeds, in the same Amazon store, 600 euros. The last word, as always, is yours.
