MIUI, the personalization layer of Xiaomi phones, is not precisely characterized by being a layer with few functions. As if this were not enough, the software has a series of hidden functions and settings that allow us to further personalize the user experience. This time we have compiled some of these hidden options, as well as their usefulness and the way in which we will have to activate them.
MIUI hidden camera features
Did you know that the Xiaomi camera application has hidden options? So is. To activate them, we will have to resort to a file manager that allows us to create files. In our case we have opted for Cx Explorer.
Once we have the application in question, we will access the DCIM folder that we can find in the root storage of the phone. Within this folder we will create a file through the tool options with the following name:
- lab_options_visible
Now we just have to go to the camera application, and more specifically, to the Additional Settings option. Next, the application will show us a series of options similar to those that we can see in the following screenshot:
Among the options that Xiaomi includes we find the following:
- Internal "magic" tools
- Activate SR
- Enable parallel processing
- Activate quick shot animation
- Face detection
- Hide the face detection frame automatically
- Beautify photos in Portrait mode
- Activate dual camera
- Activate MFNR
Developer settings, the hidden Android menu for expert users
This popular menu allows us to perform actions such as speeding up system animations, generating a fake GPS location or viewing hidden Bluetooth devices, among many other options.
The way to activate this menu is as simple as going to the Settings application. In the About the phone section, we will press several times on MIUI version until a message similar to "You are already a developer" or "Development options have been activated" appears.
Finally we will go to the Additional Settings section, where we can find a new section called Developer Options.
Hardware Test, the menu to check the operation of Xiaomi
If our mobile shows signs of error in any component of the device, a good way to check the status of said component is based on resorting to the menu known as Hardware Test or CIT. We can access this menu in two ways. The first and simplest is based on entering the code * # * # 64663 # * # * in the Calls application .
In case the code does not take effect, we can resort to this menu by clicking several times on the Kernel version section within the About the phone section in the Settings application. Within this menu we can check the status of the speakers, the touch panel, the screen, the brightness sensors, the physical buttons and a long etcetera. Even use the FM radio even if your mobile doesn't have it. In short, a Swiss army knife.
MIUI hidden options
The last hidden menu that we can find in MIUI can only be activated through third-party applications. In this case we will use Hidden Settings for MIUI, an application that we can download for free from the Google Play Store.
Once we have installed it on our Xiaomi mobile, the application will show us a set of parameters and functions that we can configure to our liking, as we can see in the screenshot below.
The options that we can find are the following:
- Manage apps
- Application usage time
- Phone information
- Android Easter Egg
- Manage notifications
- Notification log
- Block visual disturbances
- Backlight adaptive content
- Developer options
- Performance tool
- Device Information
- Use of private DNS
- Hardware testing
- Terminal test
- QMMI
- Battery optimization
