With the arrival of the new iPhone 11, many of us took the opportunity to change devices. Whether you are an Apple user or not, you will know that the price of new models is always somewhat exorbitant, so going for the useful model is not always a good option. The iPhone XR or iPhone 8 are at a very good price, and you may be thinking of purchasing one of these models. Whatever your new iPhone, I show you 15 tips and tricks to help you get the most out of it.
The tips that I will show below are taken from iOS 13 onwards, so if you have a terminal with an older version, it is likely that some of these will not appear, since iOS 13 adds new functions. The new version is now available for download. Here you can see which devices are supported and how to update. Some features may also only be available on the new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. We start with the tricks.
Activate dark mode
One of the main novelties of iOS 13 is the dark mode. If your device has updated to this version you will receive the possibility to apply this dark mode. In OLED panels it will save some autonomy, since the black ones are off pixels. Therefore, the screen does not have to work as much. In the case of LCD panels, such as those of the iPhone XR, iPhone 11 or iPhone 8 and below, this dark mode does not provide autonomy savings, but it does give a different physical appearance.
How can we activate the dark mode? There are different ways. The simplest is to go to the control center from the right area in the iPhone with notch or from the bottom in the iPhone 8 Plus and below. Then, press and hold the brightness option and activate the button in the left area, the one that says 'Dark mode'. The interface tones will automatically go from white to black, and the main apps will adapt to this mode. If you want to deactivate it, you can also do it from that option.
Another way to apply dark mode is from the system settings. To do this we go to Settings> Screen and brightness> Aspect. You will see that the option to choose the light or dark mode appears. In addition to applying automatic mode. This last option allows the interface to change automatically depending on the time of day. In the morning the light mode will appear and in the evening the dark mode will be applied. The automatic can also be adjusted for a custom time zone. For example, enable dark mode from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Don't close Safari tabs
The new version of iOS allows you to close Safari tabs automatically. To make Safari close the tabs every so often, we must go to Settings> Safari> Tabs> Close tabs. By default there will be the option 'Manually', but we can switch between after a day, after a week or after a month.
Take a screenshot of the entire page
Do you need to take a screenshot of an article or web page? There is a new option that allows us to take a full screen capture.
First, find a web page or article where you want to take a screenshot. Take the screenshot like any other. In the iPhone with notch it is done by pressing the power button and volume + at the same time. On iPhone with Touch ID, press the start button and volume +. The device will make the screen capture sound and the thumbnail will appear at the bottom.
Click on the thumbnail and in the editing options click full screen. You will see how the whole page appears. This capture can be saved as PDF in. In addition, we can cut it with the cropping option that appears in the upper area.
Record Instagram-style with the iPhone camera
If you use Instagram stories, you will know the option that allows you to record by just holding down the shutter. In the new iPhone 11, 11 Pro and Pro Max, Apple has also added this option in the camera app. Go to the application, and in the photo option, keep pressed until it starts recording. If you want to remove your finger from the button but continue recording, slide to the lock that appears in the right area.
Take a burst of photos with the camera
With this new video recording option on the iPhone 11, the camera no longer allows you to take photos in burst mode as in previous models. But there is a way. Just press on the camera shutter and swipe right. You will see how the iPhone camera begins to burst. If you want it to stop, you just have to release.
Adding the Battery Widget
Again, a tip for iPhones that have a notch in the upper area. That is, the iPhone X onwards. This notch means that the battery percentage cannot be applied in the upper area, since it would occupy all the space. However, we can know how much battery we have left in the iPhone and other Bluetooth devices thanks to the Widget.
To activate the Battery Widget it will first be necessary to connect a bluetooth device, such as headphones or speakers. Or an Apple Watch or AirPods. Once connected, we go to the widget center at the bottom and click on 'Edit. Then find the battery widget and click the '+' button to add it to the screen. Now, even if you disconnect the Bluetooth devices, you can see how much battery there is in your iPhone.
You can also check the battery level in percentage from the control center, you just have to swipe down from the right side.
How to activate the night mode of the camera manually
Another novelty of the new iPhone: night mode. This is activated automatically when the camera detects that there is not enough light, but there may be the situation of wanting to activate the night mode manually, and in the iPhone there is no option of 'Night mode' as there is in some Android terminals. Here it is via a shortcut. This is in the upper area, it is the button next to the flash. If we press the night mode will be activated and we can adjust the exposure time depending on the light (adjust it for more seconds if the scene is quite dark).
Move desktop apps to keep it tidy
Do you want to move the desktop applications? If you hold down for a short time, the new menu will appear with some shortcuts and the possibility of reordering the applications. Swipe to that option. You can also press for a slightly longer period of time and when the apps start to shake, move them wherever you want.
How to have two SIM cards in the iPhone
The iPhone XS and XS Max, XR, 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are dual SIM, but it does not have a tray to insert the two cards. You will need to have an eSIM if you want to use the iPhone with two numbers. Currently Vodafone, O2, Movistar and Orange are companies that offer these virtual SIMs. You can contact your operator to provide one.
If you already have a QR code, you should go to Settings> Mobile data> Add mobile data plan. There you will have to scan the QR code and follow the steps indicated by the device to configure the eSIM. It is very likely that you will have to call your operator to activate it once configured.
Silence calls from unknown numbers
Don't want to receive calls from people you don't know? The new version of iOS has an option to mute these calls. In this way, you will only receive calls from contacts, phone numbers with which you have previously established a conversation or numbers that appear in answered emails and SMS.
To activate the option to silence calls we must go to Settings> Telephone> Silence numbers from strangers. You can disable this option from that same location.
How to use 3D Touch on any iPhone
The 3D Touch has already gone down in history. Apple has decided to eliminate this technology and has opted for the Optic Touch, which really works in a similar way, but without the need to put pressure on the screen. This means that other devices that did not have 3D Touch, such as the iPhone XR, allow us to use the options that the 3D Touch offered us.
It works practically the same, it even has a small vibration that simulates the 3D Touch. We just have to press a little longer on an app, image or setting to access the preview, controls or shortcuts of the applications.
Change the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth network without entering settings
You no longer have to enter settings to change the Wifi or the bluetooth device. There is an option to change it from control access. Just click on the connection options and hold down the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth icon. You will see that the preferences panel opens from that tab itself and that you can change the network or the device that you have connected through Bluetooth.
How to download any file from Safari
Now you can download any file from safari. Even.ZIP files, as they can be opened through the 'Files' app that comes installed on iPhone. In this way it is very easy to download a document or file. In the Safari app you will see the icon with what you have downloaded, although you can also do it from the Files application
How to send Memoji Stickers by WhatsApp
Apple has added the ability to transform popular Animoji or Memojis into Stickers. In this way we can send it through the different social networks and platforms that support these stickers. As WhatsApp is one of them, we can send stickers of our Memojis in a simple way.
First, you will need to select the conversation. On the keyboard, go to the emoji icon and swipe right. You will see the Memoji stickers appear. Select the one you prefer and press send. As simple as that.
