The Redmi 9 is the renewal of the Redmi 8 presented by Xiaomi just a few days ago. Today, the phone can be purchased through the official store of the brand for a price of 150 euros, although if you have reached this article, it is most likely that you already own the Redmi 9. Despite the differences techniques that the mobile presents with its predecessor, the truth is that it has the same software version as the Redmi 8, that is, MIUI 11 (and in the future, MIUI 12). Do you want to get the most out of your mobile? Take a look at these tricks for the Xiaomi Redmi 9 that you must know yes or yes.

Use a song as a notification tone or ringtone on the Redmi 9
Changing the ringtone or the notification tone is something we can do with some ease in MIUI. For this we will have to go to the Sound and vibration menu. Within this menu we will go to Phone ringtone if we want to change the ringtone or to the Default notification sound option if we want to change the tone of MIUI notifications.
Now we just have to choose the tone or song that we want to select as the warning tone. If we want to select a song or audio track saved in the internal storage of the phone we will have to click on the option Choose a local ringtone and finally on File manager.
Speed up system animations to improve Redmi 9 performance
A trick that has been present in Android since the first versions of the system. Previously we will have to previously activate what in Android is known as Developer Settings.
To activate these options we will have to go to the MIUI Settings application, specifically to the About the phone section. Within this menu we will press seven times on the MIUI Version or MIUI Version option. The system will automatically notify us with a message that we are already developers. To access the menu in question we will have to go to the Additional Settings section and click on Developer options.
Within the Developer Options we will locate the following settings:
- Window animation level
- Animation level of transitions
- Animation duration level
To speed up the system animations, it is recommended to set the figure to 0.5x or disable the animations completely. If we activate this last option, all animations will disappear from the system until we activate them again.
Lock applications with the fingerprint or a password on the Xiaomi Redmi 9
Did you know that you can block access to Redmi 9 applications with a password or fingerprint? A few years ago this method required third-party tools or complex root- based processes. Today we will not have to resort to any external application, at least in MIUI 11. In this case, it is enough to go to the Applications menu within Settings, more specifically to the section on Application Blocking.
Now MIUI will show us a list with all the applications installed on the Xiaomi Redmi 9; We will have to select only those that we want to block with our finger or a password, from WhatsApp and Instagram to applications such as Tinder or Badoo.
Do not use buttons, use navigation gestures to navigate on the Redmi 9
MIUI 10 introduced gesture navigation on Xiaomi mobiles. Thanks to this we can control the phone with simple swipe gestures to go back, to the desktop or to the recent MIUI applications. To activate the gestures in the Redmi 9 we will have to go to the Screen menu in Settings, specifically to the option Do you need other settings? . Finally we will click on Full screen and then on Full screen gestures.
Now MIUI will remove the virtual buttons from Android to make use of gestures. To avoid ghost touches, we recommend activating the option to perform gestures twice. Sometimes, it may be the case that the system conflicts with the back gesture and the side menu of certain applications.
Install MIUI 12 when available on Xiaomi Redmi 9
MIUI 12 is on the way, at least in the latest batch of Xiaomi phones. To download the update as soon as it is available, we can use Downmi, an application that allows us to download the latest version of MIUI on any phone of the brand. The application in question can be downloaded through the Google store.
Download Downmi
After downloading the application, we will select our phone model and then the type of ROM we want to download. Ideally, select the Global Stable version to avoid problems with unstable or unsupported versions. Automatically we will be shown a list with different versions of MIUI to download, as we can see in the screenshot below.
To install the ROM that we just downloaded on the phone we will have to follow the usual process to update MIUI.
Activate the screen with a double tap on the Redmi 9
Waking up the screen with a double tap is something we can do in MIUI from the first versions. It was not going to be an exception in the case of the Redmi 9. If we want to activate this function we will have to go to the Lock screen section within Settings, more specifically to the Double tap option on the screen to wake up. Now the phone will wake up every time we double-click on the screen.
Activate the hidden camera options of the Xiaomi Redmi 9
The MIUI Camera application incorporates a series of experimental options that can only be enabled following a specific method. The first step to enable these hidden options will be to download a file explorer that allows us to create folders and files in the internal memory of Redmi 9. Cx Explorer is one of the best explorers in this regard. We can download it for free in the Google store.
After downloading the application and enabling the corresponding permissions, we will go to the DCIM folder in the root storage of the phone. Then we will create a file with the following name:
- lab_options_visible
Finally we will go to the MIUI Camera application, specifically up to the settings (we can find it in the gear wheel of the upper bar). Now we just have to click on Additional Settings, where we will be shown a dozen new functions.
We leave you below with the list of new options:
- Beautify photos in Portrait mode
- Activate dual camera
- Enable parallel processing
- Activate quick shot animation
- Activate MFNR
- Internal "magic" tools
- Face detection
- Hide the face detection frame automatically
- Activate SR
Share the password of a WiFi network with a QR code
Sharing the WiFi password on MIUI 11 is easier than ever. Just go to the WiFi section in Settings. With the phone connected to the network that we want to share, we will click on the name of the network to generate a QR code.
To connect to the WiFi from another mobile we will have to scan the code in question through the system's network options.
Connect your mobile to the TV to mirror the screen
Did you know that you can mirror the Redmi 9 screen on TV without resorting to cables or third-party applications? The only requirement is to have a TV compatible with Screencast technology and to have both devices connected to the same WiFi network.
If we meet both requirements, the process is as simple as sliding the quick settings bar down and activating the Cast function. The phone will automatically start scanning all devices that support Screen Mirroring technology. All you have to do is press on our TV to start broadcasting the phone screen on the TV screen. We can also go to the homonymous section in Settings if the Issue function is not present in the quick settings bar.
Add gestures to the fingerprint sensor of your Xiaomi Redmi 9
It is not a trick to use, since we will have to resort to a third-party application. There are dozens of applications that allow us to configure gestures on the fingerprint sensor, although the one we recommend from tuexperto.com is Fingerprint Quick Action. We can also resort to Fingerprint Gestures if the previous one does not work correctly for us.
Within the tool we will grant you the appropriate permissions and configure an action for each gesture of the fingerprint sensor. One touch, several touches, one swipe gesture…
Annoying number? Block spam calls on your Redmi 9
With MIUI's blocking functions we don't have to resort to any external tool to block calls from annoying numbers. In fact, we will only have to go to the Telephone application and press and hold the number in question. A contextual menu with different options will automatically appear, although the one that interests us is the one that allows us to block the number to stop receiving calls.
Use your Redmi 9 as an external battery
If the Redmi 9 stands out for something, it is because of its huge 5,020 mAh battery. Although the phone does not allow us to share its load because it does not have reversible wireless charging, we can use a USB OTG adapter to connect other devices through the USB type C port. We leave you next with a pair of USB adapters Amazon Type C to USB Type A Compatible with the Redmi 9:
To preserve the state of the battery, we recommend that you do not abuse this charging method. After all, the battery is not designed to transfer charge to other devices.
