The Huawei P Smart has become Huawei's best-selling mid-range and lower-middle-range mobile series in Spain during 2018. Along with the release of the P Smart Plus 2018 the same year and its subsequent renewal with the P Smart 2019, P Smart Plus 2019 and P Smart Z, Huawei has managed to establish itself in the Spanish and Latin American market. For this reason we have made a compilation of the best tricks of the Huawei P Smart to get the most out of them.
Because we will be using EMUI 9 and EMUI 10 as the base system, all the tricks that we will see below are compatible with the current P Smart range. Huawei P Smart 2018, Smart + P 2018, P Smart 2019, Smart + P 2019 and P Smart Z.

The main novelty of EMUI 9 is based precisely on the new integrated navigation gesture system, thanks to which we can interact with applications without resorting to traditional physical buttons. Just access the Settings application to activate them.
In the System section, and more specifically in System navigation, we can find the different available navigation methods:
- Gestures
- 3-key navigation
- Navigation dock
Once we have activated the gestures, the on-screen buttons will disappear. The way to interact with the system leaves us with the following actions:
- Swipe from bottom to top: go to Home
- Swipe from bottom to top and hold: go to Recent apps
- Swipe from the right or left to the center: go back
- Swipe from bottom to top on one of the sides (right or left): activate Google Assistant
How to hide applications on the Huawei P Smart 2019
Although EMUI does not have the possibility of hiding applications, it does allow us to block applications with a password, which can be alphanumeric or based on fingerprint data or even face through the integrated facial unlocking system.
The process is as simple in this case as going to Settings; specifically to Security and privacy. Within this section we will click on Application blocking and configure the unlocking method we want.
Finally we will select the applications that we want to block with a password.
How to hide the gallery on the Huawei P Smart Plus
Hiding the Gallery application in EMUI is not possible. What is possible is to hide images, videos and files in general from the system options. We can also make use of the above function to hide the application itself and not its content.
Within the Security and privacy section in Settings we can find an option called Safe. We will only have to click on the option in question and establish a numeric password to enable the function that allows us to hide files.
Now we will only have to point out all those files and elements in general that we want to hide through the EMUI file manager. Photos, images, videos, sound files, downloads and a long etcetera.
How to speed up the Huawei P Smart and improve performance
There is no magic application that allows us to improve the performance of the Huawei P Smart 2018 or Smart 2019. What we can do is speed up the animations of the system to obtain a faster feedback or response when interacting with the system, as well as with the applications installed on the mobile.
To carry out this task we will have to previously activate the so-called Developer Options. In this case we will have to click several times on Compilation number in the About phone section that we can find in the Settings application, and more specifically in the system section.
Once we have activated the aforementioned options, the new menu will appear as an option in the System section. In this same menu we will have to find the following modifications:
- Window animation scale
- Transition-animation scale
- Animator duration scale
The recommended thing to speed up the phone is to set the animation scale to a figure of 0.5x, although we can also select 0x if we want to disable animations completely.
How to change the screen resolution of the Huawei P Smart Plus 2018
A more than effective solution to save battery in the Huawei P Smart is based on reducing the resolution of the screen from Full HD + to HD +, something that will only be appreciated in videos played through applications such as YouTube, Twitch or Netflix.
To do this, just scroll to the Screen section that we can find in Settings. Within this section we will go to Screen resolution and select the HD + option (1,560 x 720). We can also choose to select Smart Resolution so that the system alternates between the two resolutions automatically, although it is not the best option if we want to save battery drastically.
How to block spam calls on the Huawei P Smart Plus
One of the most useful tricks of the Huawei P Smart of EMUI is based precisely on blocking calls from spam numbers automatically. The Huawei layer also has the ability to block calls from hidden or unknown numbers, and the process is as simple as accessing the Calls application.
Within this we will click on the three points of the upper Options bar and select the Filter option. Next we will access Call blocking rules and activate the option to Block all unknown numbers and Block unknown / hidden numbers.
If we activate this last option, we will stop receiving calls from any number that we have not previously registered in the phone book, whether or not they are identified by a number.
How to change the launcher on the Huawei P Smart Z
EMUI is the only customization layer that does not allow changing the default phone launcher for third-party launchers through the traditional method. To change between launchers we will have to go to the Applications section that we can find in Settings.
Within this section we will go to Default applications and finally click on the Launcher option. Now we will only have to choose the launcher that we want the system to show by default as long as we have previously installed a compatible launcher.
How to change the theme on the Huawei P Smart 2018
Although EMUI 10 and EMUI 9 have greatly restricted the possibility of changing the theme on Huawei phones, the truth is that today we can carry out this action through third-party applications, such as Themes for Huawei that we can download from Google Play Store. We can also use themes hosted on the Google store itself.
Once we have downloaded the application in question from the application itself, simply select a theme from the catalog to download it to the mobile. The great advantage of Themes for Huawei is that we can change the aesthetics of the system separately; from icons and wallpapers to custom fonts.
After having downloaded the theme in question we will have to go to the Themes section in Settings to enjoy the new aesthetic.
How to change the font on the Huawei P Smart
Changing the font within the Huawei P Smart 2018 is something that we can carry out using the same previous application, and more specifically within the Fonts section.
The application process once we have downloaded the custom font does not differ at all from the process to follow to apply themes: within Main screen and wallpaper / Themes / Themes / Personalize.
How to increase the font size on the P Smart 2019
If we want to change the font size in the system, we can make it feasible without resorting to third-party applications. Within the Screen section in the Settings application we will go to Text size and display.
In this same menu we can change between the text size and the display size. This last option will help increase or decrease the final font size even further.
- Text size: Small, Normal, Large, Extra Large and Very Large
- Display size: Small, Default and Large
If we combine a Large or Extra Large text size with a Large display size, it is likely that the setting is applied only in some system applications because the elements could conflict with other elements of the interface.
How to record the screen on the Huawei P Smart + without applications
Since EMUI 8, Huawei has been integrating in its customization layer an option that allows us to record the system screen without the need to resort to third-party applications.
Accessing it is as simple as sliding the Quick Settings bar down. If the Screen recording option does not appear we can enable it by clicking on the Pencil icon to edit the options to be displayed in the Quick Settings.
It should be noted that the final resolution of the video will depend on the resolution that we have previously configured in the options of the Screen resolution section.
