How Be My Eyes works

The first thing we need to understand when tackling how Be My Eyes works is the way it connects the two parts.Visually impaired users will be able to video call a random volunteer, the first to answer the call. Once connected, the first will focus, with the camera of their mobile, where they need help, so that the volunteers guide them through their voice.

If you want to use Be My Eyes to request help, you must follow the steps below. Do not worry if you do not distinguish, or see the buttons, because you can use the Google assistant or Siri for it, below we leave you the voice commands. Download the app, choose your default language, and allow access to your microphone and camera. Then select I need visual assistance and sign in with Google, Facebook or email.

Once you have logged in, when you open Be My Eyes you must press in the middle of the screen, since there is the button Call the first available volunteer.The button occupies most of the screen so that it is instinctively the first thing we press when accessing the app. Although remember that, with your voice, you can ask the Google assistant, or Siri, to open Be My Eyes or directly call a volunteer.

Once you do this, a call will be established with the first volunteer who picks up their mobile phone. The blind person will focus the camera on his mobile where he needs help and the volunteer will guide him with his voice. In order not to torpedo its use, we have avoided making a test call.

On the other hand, apart from the help that volunteers can give you, you can also contact the technical service of certain companies. To do this, press the Specialized Help button, located at the bottom of the screen, and choose the company to call. Some companies available are Microsoft, Clearblue or Spotify.In this case it is also possible to call Specialized Help via the Google Assistant or Siri.

What if I want to volunteer? In this case, open the app and select I'd like to volunteer, then sign in with Google, email or Facebook and tap Learn to answer a call to receive a test call. With this call you will not help anyone yet, but by accepting it, a video tutorial of how Be My Eyes works will be shown. Once you've seen it, you're ready to accept real calls.
