This function will make you use Spotify for everything on your Android
Table of contents:
The most popular streaming music application is becoming more and more complete. Just a few months ago, Spotify began to offer new features to give more prominence to Podcasts, there are even rumors that the company could launch a monthly subscription for this type of audio programs. Now, it looks like Spotify is testing a totally different feature, which will make you use the app for everything on your Android phone.
Jane Manchun Wong, a 'leaker' specialized in filtering upcoming features of the most popular applications, such as Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, has shared a screenshot of the possible new feature on her Twitter account from Spotify. In the screenshot we can see a setting that allows you to activate the search for local files in our phone's memory That is, the possibility of synchronizing music or audio files that we have downloaded from third parties and that we have on our mobile, with the Spotify application to listen to them from there.
Spotify is finally working on on-device local files support for Android!

In this way we can listen to any compatible audio file directly from the Spotif applicationand, even without having to be premium. Spotify currently has a feature that allows you to do exactly the same thing, but with a more complex process. Also, you need to be Premium as a minimum requirement. With the new function we would only have to activate or deactivate the option, and Spotify will automatically find the local audio files.
When is this feature coming to Spotify?
It is unknown what system integration will look like with this new feature. At the moment, I have some doubts. Among them, if the system will give us the possibility of using Spotify as the default player or if we can combine the music from our Spotify library with the songs we have on the internal memory. Wong says that this feature is currently being developed for Android. It is not yet official and it is unknown if Spotify will launch it soon. If announced, the streaming music app would support 3 formats: streaming music, podcast and local music.
On iOS there is still no news, but this function is already supported by Apple Music, Apple's music streaming service. Unfortunately, Apple Music does not have a free plan, so a subscription is required.
