Android Auto, Google's operating system for the car, will soon receive a new update with interesting new features, including a long-awaited function by the users. The Google platform is becoming more complete, but some features are still missing. With these improvements, the experience when using Android Auto while driving is much better. Find out why.
One of the main novelties that will arrive in the next update is the possibility of adding wallpapers to the interface. The teardown of the latest Android Auto APK shows lines in the source code that reference these wallpapers. These backgrounds will be applied to the home screen and will allow us to give a different look to the front panel of our car Of course, they will be slightly attenuated so that we can quickly recognize the icons. Seven new wallpapers with different designs are expected to be added: from darker tones to more colorful and abstract.
The wallpapers can be changed from the system settings. At the moment we can only select those 7 available. Google will not give the possibility of activating a wallpaper downloaded from the internet or from the reel, as it does in Android terminals. Possibly to prevent the interface icons from not matching the wallpaper and this makes us pay more attention to the device than to the road.
Add Google Assistant commands to the home screen
In addition to wallpapers, Android Auto will also add shortcuts to Google Assistant commands. We can add shortcuts to the home screen to commands that we can do with the Google Assistant,no need to say the command – just press the button. For example, creating a shortcut to the route to work, or another access to our Spotify PlayList. In this way we will only have to press a button, instead of saying 'Ok Google, show me the route to work' or 'Hey Google, play the Spotify PlayList'. We can create these shortcuts through the settings, in the option 'Customize applications menu'.

To create it, we just have to add an action from the Wizard, write the command, give it a name and click on 'Create shortcut'. We can also create direct access calls to contacts.
All these new features will arrive in the next update of Android Auto. At the moment it is unknown when it will be deployed, but considering that the functions are in the source code, we could see them during the next few days.
